Senior Director Market Access - Rare Disease

Senior Director, Market Access Compensation: $250–275K Base + Bonus + Equity Scientific Search has partnered with a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing innovative therapies for oncology and rare diseases. Our client is seeking a Senior Director of Market Access to lead payer strategy, reimbursement, and patient access initiatives across a growing commercial portfolio and pipeline. This role will serve as a key commercial leader, shaping access strategy across the product lifecycle while working cross-functionally with Commercial, Medical Affairs, Finance, and external partners. This is a highly impactful role ideal for a market access leader who thrives in rare disease and oncology environments and enjoys building scalable access strategies in a fast-paced biotech setting. Why This Role High-impact leadership role shaping market access strategy across a growing portfolio Opportunity to build and optimize patient access infrastructure Work cross-functionally with senior leadership and influence commercial success Fast-paced, collaborative biotech environment Responsibilities Develop and execute Market Access strategies across commercial and government payers to ensure optimal coverage, reimbursement, and patient access Lead end-to-end patient access strategy including hub services, reimbursement support, field reimbursement, and patient assistance programs Own distribution strategy across specialty pharmacy, specialty distribution, and buy-and-bill channels Define and communicate product value propositions to payers, incorporating health economics and outcomes data Support pricing strategy and gross-to-net considerations in partnership with Finance Lead engagement with national and regional payers to inform coverage and reimbursement strategy Oversee 340B strategy and channel management Manage external vendors including hub providers, reimbursement vendors, and distribution partners Partner cross-functionally with Commercial, Medical Affairs, Finance, Supply Chain, and Regulatory teams Support global access planning and ex-U.S. launch readiness Requirements Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, PharmD, or similar) preferred 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry with strong focus in Market Access Deep experience in payer strategy, reimbursement, patient support programs, and distribution Proven success supporting product launches, ideally in oncology and/or rare diseases Strong understanding of U.S. payer systems including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial coverage dynamics Experience with buy-and-bill and/or specialty pharmacy distribution models Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage external partners Preferred Experience Background in rare disease and/or oncology Experience in emerging biotech environments Exposure to global market access and ex-U.S. launch strategy How To Apply We’d love to see your resume, but we don’t need it to have a conversation.
