Itinerant Special Education Teacher Multi-categorical W/Autism Hodgesville Elementary SchoolProvide appropriate instruction to students and ensure that the students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate grade level.Responsibilities include:Planning and implementing the WV College and Career ReadinessImplementing adopted and supplemental academic programsImplementing 21st Century Learning Skills and Technology ToolsPlanning and implementing collaborative models with special education students and teachersPlanning and implementing designated co-curricular activities and/or programs at the schoolDesigning standards driven instruction and using a balanced assessment approach to guide student learningPlanning and implementing support for personalized learning for all studentsStrong working/communication skills with students, parents and peersWilling to implement any other programs designated by principal, central office and WVDE for school improvementEstablishing and maintaining a safe and appropriate learning environmentFulfilling and demonstrating professional growth in the West Virginia High Quality Standards and improvement in professional practiceDemonstrating an understanding of The Professional Teaching StandardsSpecial Education Teacher responsibilities include:Diagnosing and assessing student needs in accordance with county and state special education proceduresConducting progress monitoring and benchmark assessments as requiredUtilizing data in developing and modifying instruction to meet the needs of studentsDeveloping an IEP for each child placed in his/her programUtilizing teaching techniques and classroom strategies to accommodate the exceptionality and various learning styles and modes of his/her studentsCooperating with other special education and regular classroom teachers in planning and implementing the IEP for individual studentsPerforming assignments related to record keeping, reporting, documentation of parent and agency contacts, IEP development and updates and special education reportsPromoting a positive home/school relationship with parents through regular IEP, parent/teacher conferences, regular progress reports and parent trainingAssisting in the selection of programs, equipment and materials to meet the needs of his/her studentsUtilizing furniture, equipment and facilities in the most effective manner to support the instructional programInteracting with students to promote a positive school image to enhance the teaching-learning processPromoting positive community relations through effective communication and involvement of community membersSupervising paraprofessionals, aides and volunteers assigned to his/her classroomWorking with the principal and supervisory staff in identifying and solving problems related to his/her studentsQualifications include:Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levelsCriminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriateMeet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2aMaintain up-to-date certification/licensure as per WVBE Policy 5202
