About The Role:
Motional is seeking an experienced Staff Front End Engineer to join its Web Visualization Tooling team. This pivotal role involves leading the development of critical web tooling and visualization systems that enhance feedback loops for machine learning (ML) engineers and improve the performance, scalability, and adaptability of our autonomous vehicle systems. The ideal candidate will drive the establishment of cross-team standards and best practices for web development, ensuring seamless collaboration and timely delivery of high-quality solutions. You will architect and scale a modern frontend ecosystem utilizing React, TypeScript, and Vue, working closely with ML, UX, data services, and data annotation teams to develop intuitive, mission-critical UI systems tailored for complex, data-heavy workflows. Your expertise will help design and implement user-facing applications that prioritize excellent user experience and usability, all while maintaining a focus on performance and maintainability in a fast-paced, product-driven environment. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of autonomous vehicle technology by building impactful visualization tools that support various internal stakeholders and contribute to the company’s mission of safer, more accessible transportation.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in front-end development with proficiency in React, TypeScript, and modern frontend architecture
- Experience with Vue.js and related frontend frameworks
- Strong understanding of UX principles and a passion for designing user-friendly visual applications
- Ability to work independently with high ownership and autonomy
- Excellent organizational skills and a quick learner with a strong technical aptitude
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including ML, data, UX, and engineering
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and delegate effectively
- Strong technical documentation and design habit
- Experience working directly with customers to identify needs and develop solutions
Bonus:
Project management expertise, familiarity with backend systems (Node, Python), or experience in game development or 3D visualization
Responsibilities:
- Drive the adoption and enforcement of web development standards and best practices across teams
- Own and coordinate cross-team collaborations to ensure timely and effective project deliveries
