Candidates must be a member of the applicable union or be willing and eligible to join the union as a condition of employment.The Concrete Laborer will perform tasks involving physical labor at buildings, highways, and heavy civil construction projects. May operate hand and power tolls of all types; air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, saws, drills, material pumps, small mechanical hoists, material handlers, surveying, measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May carry and transport materials and supplies. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, erect/dismantle scaffolding, and shoring. May rake and rod concrete, consolidate and tamp concrete, and may clean up rubble and debris. May place concrete through pump hoses, wheel barrels, or ready-mix truck chutes.Reports toForeman, Superintendent, and General SuperintendentKey Communication PartnersForeman, Superintendent, and General SuperintendentTypical DutiesOperate saws, jackhammers, and drills to break up concrete and pavementPlace, rod, consolidate, and protect concreteClean and seal component such as concrete joints, walls, and flat workShovel, spread and rake concrete and other materialsMix by hand or with portable cement mixers concrete and other materialsSignal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materialsSpray materials such as water, cure, release, stain, paint, or ither through spray gunsTend pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment. Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery, equipment, and tools.Operate, read, and maintain air monitoring and other sampling devices in confined and/or hazardous environmentsApply caulking compounds by hand or using caulking gunsAssist with building and positioning forms for placing concrete followed by stripping and dismantle of forms after use with incorporation of saws, hammers, nails and/or boltsClean prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazardsControl traffic passing near, in and around work zonesDig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations and compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakesErect and dismantle scaffolding, shoring braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structuresGrind, scrape, or polish surfaces such as concreteLoad, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools and distribute them to appropriate locations, according to project plans and specificationsMeasure, mark, record openings and distances to play out areas where construction work will be performedMix ingredients to create compounds for covering or cleaning surfaces.Provide assistance to other craft workers, such as carpenters, masons, and operatorsIdentify and pack materialsPerform general physical activities that may include climbing, lifting, balance, walking, stopping, or kneeling. Will be determined by the union dispatch.
