Juniper Network Engineer
Terms of EmploymentW2 Contract, 6 MonthsOverviewClient is augmenting their IT organization with a network-focused resource to assist with ongoing operational demand and CMMC readiness initiatives. This role is designed to offload operational and mid-tier engineering work, allowing focus on higher-complexity compliance and design efforts.The resource will operate under the direction of MITRE IT and in coordination with supporting both steady-state network operations and in-flight infrastructure and security initiatives. While execution-focused, the role requires strong hands-on engineering capability within a Juniper-centric environment.In addition to day-to-day support, the resource will assist with implementation of CMMC-driven configuration changes and contribute to ongoing initiatives, including completion of a large-scale Juniper switching refresh and continued rollout of Cisco ISE NAC capabilities.Operational ExpectationsExecution-focused role requiring strong independent engineering capabilityWork performed within MITRE-defined processes, tooling, and escalation pathsVendor TAC leveraged for complex platform issuesResponsibilities include a mix of steady-state operations and project-based execution tied to compliance and infrastructure initiativesResponsibilitiesSupport day-to-day operations in a Juniper-based network environment including monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance.Execute configuration changes within Junos-based infrastructure under MITRE and RSM direction.Perform patching, firmware upgrades, and lifecycle management activities.Assist with implementation of CMMC-driven configuration and design updates.Support advanced networking functions including MPLS, VRF segmentation, VLANs, routing, and access control enforcement.Support SRX-based firewall functions within the Juniper environment as applicable.Troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 network issues, escalating as appropriate.Maintain documentation of configurations, changes, and operational activities.Required Skills & ExperienceStrong hands-on experience with Juniper platforms including EX, QFX, and SRXDeep expertise with Junos OS for configuration, troubleshooting, and operational supportProven experience with MPLS and VRF design, implementation, and supportExperience with Juniper tools such as Apstra and Route DirectorStrong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, including routing protocols and segmentationExperience supporting enterprise switching and routing environmentsAbility to independently execute configuration changes and troubleshoot issuesExperience supporting lifecycle initiatives such as hardware refresh and rolloutAbility to operate effectively in structured, compliance-driven environmentsPreferred Skills & ExperienceExposure to automation tools such as Ansible or similar frameworksExperience with Palo Alto firewallsExperience with Cisco ISE or NAC solutionsExperience supporting environments aligned to CMMC, NIST 800-171, or similar frameworksPrior experience in government or government-adjacent environments
