Patient Payment Estimator
Position Summary
The Patient Payment Estimator is a key member of the Financial Clearance team, responsible for developing accurate patient payment estimates to support pre-service collections. This role gathers and analyzes information from multiple systems and sources to create clear, compliant estimates that guide patient financial discussions. The estimator collaborates with internal teams and communicates effectively with patients while ensuring adherence to all state and federal guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate patient payment estimates using established standard operating procedures
Collect and verify patient and payer information from Epic work queues, payer websites, Health Information Technology systems, and Patient Accounting systems
Compile data from multiple sources to create detailed and reliable payment summaries
Support Patient Financial Services teams with estimates used for patient outreach and collections
Answer inbound calls (internal and external) related to estimates and patient accounts
Communicate clearly with patients, team members, and leadership regarding financial information
Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to patient estimates
Assist with pre-registration for patients without outstanding balances as needed
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
Medical terminology coursework preferred
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of healthcare experience required, preferably in:
Patient access
Scheduling
Call center
Clerical or physician office setting
Experience using Microsoft Office applications and healthcare systems (e.g., Epic, scheduling, or registration software)
Other Qualifications
Knowledge of procedure and diagnostic coding preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Ability to multitask and work independently
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Proficient in general computer systems and applications
Ability to complete required training and pass certification exam (90% or higher; one retake allowed for scores 80-89%)
