Job Title: Engine Development Engineer – Performance & Emissions Location: Waterloo, IA 50613 (100% Onsite)Contract Duration: 12 Months Contract (With potential for extension)Shift Structure: First Shift | Type 1 Shift (Standard Daytime Business Hours), Monday through FridayPay Rate: $40.00 - $44.00/hr on W2Portfolio Requirement: N/AVisa Sponsorship: Standard onshore onboarding requirements apply.Interview Process: Fast-tracked virtual/onsite interview process via Microsoft Teams.Job Description: Our client is a global leader in advanced powertrain technology, off-highway engines, and drivetrain solutions, is seeking an Engine Development Engineer to join their Performance, Emissions & Calibration team in Waterloo, IA. In this hands-on engineering role, you will hold shared management of a performance and emissions dynamometer (dyno) test cell. You will define detailed engine test plans, calibrate base engine software features, analyze complex emissions data, and contribute to the development and optimization of next-generation heavy-duty diesel engines and integrated aftertreatment systems.Key Responsibilities:Dyno Cell & Test Operations: Define comprehensive engine test plans, schedule dynamometer (dyno) test runs, and coordinate directly with test cell operators for performance and emissions validation.Software Calibration & Feature Tuning: Calibrate base engine software features and partner with controls engineering teams to develop, tune, and implement new engine software algorithms.Data Analysis & Modeling: Analyze complex engine test results, present technical findings, and lead engineering reviews using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, GT-Power, NI DIAdem, and CAGE/MBC.Hardware & Aftertreatment Development: Contribute to hardware development, testing, and troubleshooting for heavy-duty diesel engines and integrated aftertreatment subsystems (SCR, DPF, DOC).Cross-Functional Collaboration: Provide technical guidance to adjacent engineering groups including field performance, calibration, validation, and customer application teams.Required Qualifications & Skills:Experience: 1+ years of hands-on experience in engine development, engine control systems development, or engine component/subsystem testing.Problem Solving: Documented demonstration of strong mechanical, thermodynamic, and emissions problem-solving capabilities in a test cell or lab environment.Dyno & Test Execution: Familiarity with engine test cell operations, data acquisition systems, and emissions testing protocols.Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively within a cross-functional engineering team.Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.Stand-Out Skills (Preferred):2–3+ years of specialized experience in performance and emissions development of heavy-duty diesel engines, utilizing electronic controller development tools.2–3+ years of experience utilizing Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies, modeling, and optimization techniques.1–2+ years of hands-on proficiency with engineering software: GT-Power, MATLAB, Simulink, Model-Based Calibration (MBC), CAGE, or NI DIAdem.Direct experience with diesel aftertreatment component subsystems.Master’s degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, Systems, or Electrical Engineering.Actual Skills Required:Engine Dynamometer (Dyno) Test Planning & OperationsHeavy-Duty Diesel Performance & Emissions DevelopmentBase Engine Software Calibration & Control Systems TuningEngine Test Data Analysis (MATLAB / Simulink / NI DIAdem / GT-Power)Diesel Aftertreatment Subsystems Development (SCR / DPF)
