Special Education Teacher
Job Description
* Instruction & Curriculum: Delivering specialized instruction that helps students access the general curriculum to the greatest extent possible. Modifying materials, creating functional life-skills or academic plans, and providing intensive sensory and behavior supports.
* IEP Development & Compliance: Drafting, monitoring, and updating multi-disciplinary IEPs. Tracking student progress toward established goals and ensuring legal compliance with state and federal regulations.
* Collaboration: Working closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers (e.g., Speech and Occupational Therapists), and parents to foster a supportive learning environment.
* Behavior Management: Implementing behavioral intervention plans, utilizing structured teaching methodologies, and collecting data on student behavior and skill acquisition.
Basic Requirements and Qualifications
* Licensure: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a LBS I (Learning Behavior Specialist I) endorsement, or the appropriate state equivalent for the specific position.
* Experience: Experience working with students who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD), multiple disabilities, or emotional and behavioral disorders is highly preferred
