Location:Monroe One BOCES - 41 O'Connor Road, Fairport, NY 14450Various program locations as assignedTerm of Employment:July 9, 2026 - August 19, 2026Full-time and part-time positions availableNote: Participation in pre- and post-summer trainings and program setup meetings is required for all BOCES programs, as directed.Position OverviewThe Teacher Aide/Paraeducator supports instructional staff in delivering educational services to students with disabilities in a variety of settings. This role involves assisting with instruction, student supervision, behavior support, and daily classroom operations to help create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.Key Responsibilities(Note: Responsibilities may vary depending on program assignment.)Support classroom instruction for students individually, in small groups, and during assessments (including test proctoring)Supervise students across multiple settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and community environmentsAssist with classroom management and behavior monitoring using positive behavior supports and crisis intervention strategiesImplement physical intervention techniques (e.g., Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) when necessaryPrepare instructional materials, classroom projects, and displaysPerform clerical tasks, record keeping, and general classroom organization as directedContribute personal skills (e.g., arts, music, recreation, vocational skills) to enhance programming when appropriateUse basic technology tools, including email, or demonstrate willingness to learnAccompany students on school buses and support participation in community-based learning activities (e.g., work experiences, field trips, vocational training)Travel to off-campus activities using a personal vehicle, if requiredAssist students in aquatic activities in therapeutic or traditional chlorinated poolsSupport students with personal care, mobility, and self-help needsAttend staff meetings and participate in ongoing professional developmentPerform physical tasks required to support students and program needsComplete additional duties as assigned based on program requirementsMinimum QualificationsCivil Service Eligibility Requirement:Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, plus one of the following:One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience in a clerical role; OROne (1) year of paid or volunteer experience working with children; ORCompletion of a child care training program through an accredited organization (e.g., occupational school, American Red Cross, or similar); ORAn equivalent combination of the above experience and trainingPreferred Skills & AttributesAbility to work collaboratively as part of a team to support diverse student needsStrong interpersonal and communication skills with both students and adultsFlexibility, patience, and a commitment to student successPhysical RequirementsCandidates must be able to perform essential job functions (with or without reasonable accommodation), including:Implementing physical intervention techniquesAssisting with lifting, transferring, and positioning studentsSupporting students who use wheelchairs or require mobility assistanceEscorting students in various environments, including community settings and outdoor activitiesWalking, standing, and, in some cases, running after studentsAdditional RequirementsCommitment to the full 30-day summer programMandatory attendance at orientation (date to be determined)Non-BOCES applicants must provide proof of high school diploma or equivalency (applications without documentation will not be considered)Successful completion of a background check through NYSED
