The Yard Mechanic role involves assembling heavy machinery, performing pre-delivery inspections, and ensuring that all equipment meets high standards of quality and safety before reaching customers. This position requires mechanical knowledge, experience operating heavy machinery, and strong attention to detail to conduct thorough inspections and provide diagnostics. If this is you, and you wish to make a difference and be heard, we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you!Responsibilities:Excellent attendanceAssemble heavy machinery using hand, electric, and air-powered toolsUnpack, install, and remove machine parts as neededOperate equipment to test and ensure proper assemblyRead and interpret machine manuals and schematics for assembly and inspection purposesConduct comprehensive pre-delivery inspections of machinery, checking mechanical components, electrical systems, and overall functionalityMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentPerform external and internal visual checks for damage and function tests for each vehicle to include topping off fluidsUse a designated inspection app to document findings, defects, and concerns with photos and notesPerform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, and inspections of critical componentsIdentify and escalate any issues or discrepancies found during assembly or inspectionEnter and update inventory data in the inventory management system (IMS)Work closely with the maintenance team to address any mechanical issues and body repairs issuesMaintain accountability for company-owned tools and equipmentPerform additional duties/projects as assignedContribute, when possible, for improvements regarding safety, quality, delivery, and cost through continuous improvement methods identify potential areas of risk, and promptly share critical business information with key stakeholders to maximize results throughout TGLEstablish and maintain effective business relationships with all employees, vendors, business partners, government/regulatory entities, and communities in which we operateStrictly enforce workplace safety measures; safeguard the welfare of all employees, guests, visitors, and business partners at all times; promptly report workplace risks, incidents, injuries, and near misses; consistently wear and utilize all required PPEMaintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive and proprietary business information and safeguard TGL assets at all timesRequirements:Minimum:Must be 18 years or older with a high school diploma or equivalentValid driver's license, good driving record, valid insurance and reliable transportation1+ year of previous experience operating heavy machinery (excavators, cranes, etc.)1 year of familiarity with hydraulic and electrical systems used in construction and agricultural equipmentAbility to read and understand machine manuals and schematicsGood written and verbal communication skills in English, with clarity and legibility in all written workPositive, respectful and professional attitude with strong interpersonal skills; able to work collaboratively in a team-focused environmentStrong organizational skills and attention to detail in assigned taskAbility to follow instructions, take initiative, and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic and fast paced environmentAbility to work independently and make real-time decisions to support operational goalsProficiency with tape measures, hand, electric and air-powered tools and varying shop equipmentPC proficient and able to use mobile apps for data entry and inspection documentationCulturally sensitive and works well with the full diversity of our company and communityAbility to work in an outdoor environment, exposed to various weather conditionsAbility to transport self over multi acre work site of varied terrain and climb in/out of equipmentAbility to occasionally work non-standard hours to accommodate business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidaysAbility to pass background checkPreferred:2+ years of previous experience operating heavy machinery (excavators, cranes, etc.)Ability to read and understand machine manuals and schematics2+ years of familiarity with hydraulic and electrical systems used in construction and agricultural equipment1+ year of experience with diagnostic tools and softwareExperience with inventory management systemsAbout Tahoma Global Logistics:Puyallup Tribal Enterprises (PTE) is the economic development entity for the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, located in Tacoma, WA. PTE formed Tahoma Global Logistics in December 2022 to leverage Tribal properties in the heart of the Port of Tacoma, WA for logistics operations. Located within the Heavy Cargo corridor of the Tacoma port, we are ready to support any and all of your outdoor storage requirements. We provide drayage services, regional trucking, and transloading of project cargoes from trailer to flatrack, including blocking, bracing, and export packing.
