Dynamometer Test Technician
DescriptionDescriptionThe R&D Dynamometer Lab Technician will be responsible for all aspects of running brake and clutch dynamometer testing within the lab; including test setup, test execution, part inspections, record keeping, and machine maintenance.Responsibilities Set up dynamometer test fixturing and test parts using lifting devices where necessary. Execute test procedures and scripts using computer software associated with test equipment. Accurately measure and inspect tested or fabricated specimens for wear characteristics and flatness variation using calibrated micrometers or other various thickness gauges. Must provide consistent and accurate measurements within the same parts as well as between parts. Some qualitative visual inspections are also required. Enter inspection data into spreadsheets, worksheets, and/or lab notebooks. Provide immediate feedback to Engineering Team and Management in the event of test anomalies and disruptions. Regular interaction with other Dynamometer Lab Technicians as well as Prototype Lab Technicians. May be asked to cross-train in the prototype operation. Diagnose and solve basic mechanical and electrical issues that impact testing. Ownership of preventative maintenance program on assigned equipment. Ability to interface with other disciplines such as engineering and maintenance personnel and provide feedback with solutions to assist in continuous improvement. Participate in troubleshooting associated with breakdowns of facility and lab equipment. Read, interpret drawings, schematics, and specifications. Use of ancillary equipment as a part of dynamometer test prep (i.e. grinders, drill press, surfometer, etc.) Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area (part racks, desks, control cabinets, floors, etc.) in accordance with 5S standards Some interaction with outside contractors and customers. Assist in Shipping & Receiving operation. Prepare packages and skids for shipment, answer dock door, and notify affected personnel when deliveries arrive. Assist with general facility maintenance.RequirementsEducation RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree or equivalent from a college or technical school preferred.ExperienceMust have knowledge of mechanical components, applications, and equipment.Should have familiarity with automotive systems, especially brakes.Candidate should have knowledge and experience in handling common lab tools (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, etc.).Knowledge of electrical and control components, applications, and equipment a plus.Technical hobbies such as automotive repair and upgrading a plus.Light machining skills and welding experience a plusSafety knowledge related to the areas listed above, and follows safe work practicesAble to coordinate multiple projectsAble to work with minimal supervisionHas good communication skills and ability to clearly report and document work records accuratelySome computer knowledge (Microsoft Office) and basic PC literacy is neededOccasional overtime/weekends requiredPhysical Factors to ConsiderMust wear all necessary PPEAbility to lift and move equipment/packages up to 50 lbs.May be exposed to extreme temperatures or climateMay be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as oil, gas, and solventsCapable of bending, stretching, climbing, and assuming awkward positionsCandidate must have knowledge and experience using hand and power toolsForklift, hand pallet jack and high lift experience is a plus
