Position Description: Secondary Social Studies TeacherPosition Type: Full-TimeReports To: Campus PrincipalPosition SummaryThe secondary social studies teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction that promotes historical thinking, civic responsibility, and academic achievement while supporting student well-being and a positive campus culture. The ideal candidate is student-centered, collaborative, and committed to continuous improvement while maintaining high expectations for all learners.Primary ResponsibilitiesThe secondary social studies teacher plans and delivers engaging, standards-aligned instruction based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in accordance with Texas Education Code §28.002. Instruction promotes critical thinking, analysis of primary and secondary sources, historical inquiry, and connections between past and present civic issues. Lessons are data-informed, developmentally appropriate, and designed to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of secondary students.The teacher establishes a structured and supportive classroom environment that promotes respectful discourse, student engagement, and responsible citizenship. Ongoing assessment practices are used to monitor student progress, adjust instruction, and provide timely feedback to students and families. The teacher provides rigorous Tier 1 instruction using research-based strategies, differentiation, and formative assessment practices to ensure access and achievement for all learners.The teacher participates in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including intervention planning and progress monitoring for students requiring academic or behavioral support. Collaboration with department teams, instructional coaches, and campus leadership is expected to strengthen instructional practices and ensure alignment with campus and district goals.Clear and professional communication with parents and guardians supports student success. The teacher fulfills all professional responsibilities, including lesson planning, supervision duties, documentation, and participation in professional learning aligned with campus priorities. Performance expectations align with the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) domains.The teacher maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment consistent with district policies, the Student Code of Conduct, and state safety requirements.QualificationsApplicants must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Texas teaching certificate in Social Studies (Grades 7-12 or applicable certification) in accordance with Texas Education Code Chapter 21.Candidates should demonstrate:Strong knowledge of secondary social studies curriculum and instructional practicesAbility to facilitate discussion, analysis, and evidence-based argumentationEffective classroom management and student engagement strategiesSkill in using formative and summative assessment data to guide instructionStrong communication skills, professionalism, and collaborationNew teachers and experienced educators are encouraged to apply.Preferred AttributesSuccessful candidates are reflective practitioners who value teamwork, consistency, and positive relationships with students and colleagues.
