About the job Police Trainee / Police OfficerRequired QualificationsFor Both Positions:US citizen or permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship.At least 21 years old at time of hire.Possess a valid California Drivers License and have a satisfactory driving record.Basic knowledge in the following areas: First Aid / CPR, campus streets, buildings, and parking lots, general law enforcement procedures, vehicle laws, use of firearms. New recruits - within 1 year of appointmentObserves situations analytically, impartially, and objectively, and to record pertinent information accurately and completely. New recruits - within 1 year of appointmentDemonstrated verbal and written skills and the ability to interact with a diverse community.Able to pass medical and psychological examinations, and an extensive background investigation in compliance with California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) standards. No Felony convictions.Able to work rotating shifts in all inclement and diverse weather conditions. Daily function may require wearing a uniform.Skill in speaking and writing English clearly using appropriate vocabulary to provide information, and prepare written reports.In addition to the above,For Police Trainee Position:Graduation from high schoolUpon hire, a Police Trainee must successfully complete a POST Regular Basic AcademySB2 and or SB960 as noted with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Gov.
