Commodity management is a strategic approach to procurement that aims to optimize the value and performance of a group of related products or services. As a commodity manager 2, you are responsible for developing and implementing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and delivering savings and benefits for our organization. This individual will identify strategic suppliers in the power generation equipment space and lead cross‑functional evaluations to determine the best overall supplier product and services fit for the Mitsubishi Power Turbine solution. This individual will recommend and work with internal groups to implement strategic supplier agreements, partnerships, or potential investments in coordination with business approval processes. Main category focus for this position will be determined by business needs.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport and implement 5 year ecosystem supplier strategy, capacity, capability aligned with BU and partnersDevelop and manage relationship with power generation equipment advanced technology suppliers, evaluating both current state of the art and future technologies in early stage developmentExperience in category management and strategic sourcing within the power generation industry, particularly gas and steam turbine equipment and their related systems as well as generators, HRSG’s and other power generation related equipment and/or servicesLead supplier evaluations with cross‑functional teams covering product fit and value added, service capability, technical evaluation, manufacturing capacity, risk evaluation, quality, cost competitiveness, and intellectual property positionServe as key liaison between strategic suppliers, Mitsubishi project, engineering and service teams, and EPC partners as suppliers’ products or services are integrated into Mitsubishi Power equipment solutionsAnalyze data including market research, spend analysis, supplier performance, and stakeholder feedback to identify patterns, trends, risks, and opportunities that inform sourcing decisions and commodity plansCommunicate findings and recommendations clearly and persuasively to stakeholders and suppliers using visual tools and dashboards when appropriateImplement cost‑out ideas and drive toward standardizationNegotiate contracts and agreements and manage ongoing supplier relationships while balancing organizational and supplier interestsIdentify vendors to bid highly technical commodities meeting criteria of price, quality, quantity, availability, and delivery datesReview long‑range forecasts and usage cycles of strategic equipment to create procurement strategiesCreate value through supplier relationship management, supplier excellence initiatives, and development projects to reduce cost and lead timeWork with other Mitsubishi group companies to identify cost savings opportunities including sole sourcing, e‑sourcing events, auctions, and cross‑commodity and cross‑business‑unit bundlingCollaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives and drive total cost of ownership improvementsLead and drive category performance, establish goals, monitor progress, and demonstrate accountability and integrityPresent category strategy to senior leadershipPerform risk analysis and other supply chain data analysisDevelop detailed plans to mitigate risk and meet supply chain goalsRepresent Mitsubishi Power in negotiating contracts and formulating supplier policiesMaintain supplier KPIsMonitor supplier production capacity and establish buyer capacity plansWork with Buyers and the overall Supply Chain team to resolve conflictsDevelop, evaluate, and refine highly complex commercial and technical bidsNegotiate terms and conditions, contracts, and bid proposals in coordination with buyers and stakeholdersWrite and distribute highly technical bid invitations and requests for proposal and analyze supplier responsesEstablish blanket purchase agreements with vendors including dollar and time limitationsMay lead or supervise the activities of othersTravel up to 25%Perform other duties as requiredOther Duties And ResponsibilitiesComply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures and report unsafe activitiesParticipate in proactive team efforts and leadership to achieve departmental, company, and individual goalsContribute to building a positive team spiritCommunicate effectively with subordinates and management at all levelsProtect confidential informationMaintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all timesRequirementsBachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (MBA preferred) with four (4) years of supply chain experience, or eight (8) years of supply chain experience with specialty in commodities management, or an equivalent combinationAbility to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, engineering drawings, specifications, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulationsAbility to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and present information to diverse audiencesAbility to calculate figures and apply basic algebra and geometryAbility to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formBasic personal computer skills including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databasesAbility to communicate job tasks, goals, and projects to global sourcing staff and manage or delegate as neededPhysical Demands & Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, talk, and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The employee may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and work in a loud environment.
