Principal Constellation Technical Lead, pLEO Systems

Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Principal Constellation Technical Lead to apply our TeraWave technology to lead architecture, capture, development, and execution of proliferated Low Earth Orbit (pLEO) constellation programs for commercial customers. This key technical leadership position will serve as the primary technical authority for constellation-level design, integration, and optimization, ensuring cohesive system performance across multiple spacecraft while interfacing between business development teams and engineering execution teams.Special Mentions:Position is open to working at any major Blue Origin worksiteRelocation assistance is availablePosition requires approximately 30% travelActive Top Secret security clearance desired.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Lead the technical development and optimization of commercial pLEO constellation architectures, including orbital design, coverage analysis, and constellation-wide performance requirementsServe as the primary technical lead for commercial constellation opportunities, representing In-Space Systems' technical capabilities and solutionsDevelop constellation-level requirements and specifications that balance performance, cost, schedule, and manufacturability for high-volume satellite productionInterface between sales, marketing, and strategy teams and engineering teams to shape opportunities and ensure technical alignment with commercial customer needsLead technical aspects of business development activities including customer meetings, technical presentations, and capability demonstrations for commercial pLEO opportunitiesDevelop and write technical proposals and responses to RFIs/RFPs for commercial satellite constellation opportunitiesProvide systems engineering leadership for constellation-level architecture decisions, including orbital configuration, inter-satellite links, ground segment integration, and constellation deployment strategiesLead technical trade studies to optimize constellation performance, resilience, and total cost of ownershipIdentify and mitigate technical risks throughout the constellation lifecycle, from design through deployment and operationsStay current with industry trends and competitive landscape in commercial pLEO markets, including communications, Earth observation, and IoT applicationsRepresent Blue Origin's technical capabilities at industry events and customer engagementsMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field10+ years of experience in satellite systems engineering with progressive leadership responsibilitiesExperience with commercial satellite constellation architecture, design, and deploymentDemonstrated experience in technical proposal development and customer engagement for commercial space programsStrong understanding of constellation-level design considerations including orbital mechanics, coverage analysis, and system-of-systems engineeringExperience leading technical teams through complex constellation development lifecyclesPreferred Qualifications:Master's degree or PhD in relevant engineering discipline15+ years of experience in satellite systems engineering with significant constellation leadership experienceDirect experience with pLEO constellation architecture development, deployment, and operationsExperience with mass-production techniques for satellite manufacturing and constellation deployment strategiesTrack record of successful proposal development and contract capture for commercial space programsExperience with inter-satellite link technologies, constellation management systems, and autonomous operationsKnowledge of commercial pLEO market dynamics, business models, and customer requirements across various applications (communications, Earth observation, IoT)Experience with agile development methodologies and rapid iteration in commercial space systemsStrong presentation and technical writing skills with ability to communicate complex constellation architectures to both technical and business stakeholdersExperience with constellation simulation tools and performance modelingActive Top Secret security clearanceWhy Blue Origin:At Blue Origin, we are driven by our company motto, Gradatim Ferociter, meaning "Step by Step, Ferociously."
