Superintendent I – Retail Construction (Traveling) Position Overview The Superintendent is responsible for managing and coordinating all on-site construction activities for retail projects, including Elford crews and subcontractors. This role requires a strong field presence, consistent communication, and the ability to deliver fast-paced retail projects safely, on schedule, and to quality standards. This is a traveling position supporting projects throughout Ohio. Key Responsibilities Lead daily on-site construction operations, supervising Elford field staff, subcontractors, and on-site support personnel Maintain clear, professional communication with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and internal leadership Ensure all work is performed in strict compliance with project plans, specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements Drive project schedules, sequencing work to meet aggressive retail timelines and turnover dates Coordinate inspections, testing, permits, site logistics, materials, equipment, and manpower Enforce quality control standards and oversee correction of any deficient or non-conforming work Review subcontractor scopes to confirm full coverage and coordinate with Project Manager prior to award and final payment Participate in job meetings, field operations meetings, and company training programs Support project billing and subcontractor payment processes through accurate field documentation Travel as required to support retail projects throughout Ohio Education & Experience Trade school, apprenticeship program, Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience 10+ years of construction experience, including at least 5 years in a Superintendent or Foreman role Retail construction experience strongly preferred Skills & Qualifications Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage fast-paced, schedule-driven retail projects Excellent planning, organization, and prioritization abilities Comfortable working with field technology and basic computer systems Ability to influence teams and subcontractors to achieve results Willingness and flexibility to travel throughout Ohio Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous professional development
