Fire Rescue Department Director (22909)

Fire Chief Brevard County is an EEO and Veteran's Preference employer. Full Time Open Until Filled. THIS POSITION IS APPOINTIVE SERVICE $4,864.02 to $5,350.42 biweekly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Central Area/Rockledge/Travels Countywide. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and may require evenings and weekends as needed. Performs skilled administrative work serving as the Fire Chief and directing and coordinating the County's Fire Rescue services, including Fire Operations Command, Fire Prevention, Emergency Communications Center, and the Ocean Lifeguard program. Supervision is given to the professional, technical, and administrative staff. This position reports to the County Manager and must possess the ability to strategically communicate with the Brevard County Commissioners and the County's municipalities. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Fire Protection, Business Administration, or a closely related field PLUS eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in Fire Rescue services or a closely related field, which includes six (6) years in a responsible management position. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Master's degree is preferred. Education or experience which provides a good knowledge of Fire, Emergency Management, and Emergency Medical Services is preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida State Fire Fighter Certificate of Compliance from the State of Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training and maintain said certification during the term of employment. Must possess a current valid State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and maintain certification in an active status during the term of employment. A current valid State of Florida Paramedic certification is preferred. Applicants must be able to successfully complete a criminal, driver's license, and personal background investigation conducted by Brevard County or another agency. Must be able to successfully pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check administered by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster, that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
