Sterile Processing Tech

Job Title: Sterile Processing Tech Required: High school graduate or GED certification, Training or courses in Sterile Processing, Current BLS, Experience in Sterile Supply, Good communication skills, good computer skills, Strong ethical and moral character references. CATEGORY I: I understand that this position has been designated Category I and the tasks that I am required to routinely perform involves an inherent potential for mucous membrane or non-intact skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes. Use of protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks. Sterile Processing: Decontamination Activities: Separates and discards disposable materials properly, Sorts non disposable base on decontamination method, determine sequence of decontamination activities (heat sensitive vs. non heat sensitive, immersible vs non-immersible, mechanical vs hand wash), Inspect material/instrument/equipment for damage and start repair process, properly notifies supervisor of needed repairs, properly disinfects durable equipment, Prioritize workload. Assembly Activities: Determine sequence of assembly based on factors including need, processing time and time management, Perform and document assembly activities, Verify and document functionality and cleanliness of material, Package and label material based on item properties, Update instrument lists. Sterilization Activities: Correctly peel-packs supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspect each instrument for use, function, completeness and cleanliness, operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with The Department of Health, AAAHC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards. Maintains appropriate records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards. Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility, accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents, lubricants, examination for function, identification and assembly according to OneSource and preparation for sterilization; retrieves malfunctioning instruments and ensures repairs are completed, Determine sequence of sterilization based on need sterilization and time management, Properly load sterilizer, Documents load contents, date, sterilizer number operator and other information, Monitors sterilization process with proper use of mechanical chemical, and biological indicators, Uploads sterilizer properly and safely, Properly transports sterilized materials to location, Properly use decontamination and sterilizer equipment.
