Job Title: Instructor (Contract) - Elements and Principles of Fashion DesignCourse: Elements and Principles of Fashion Design (FAD101)Position Type: ContractDelivery Method: In-PersonCompensation: Hourly (commensurate with experience)Duration: 12 weeksClass Session Length: 3.75 hours per sessionTentative Start Date: June 22, 2026Position Overview:We are seeking an engaging and knowledgeable instructor to teach Elements andPrinciples of Fashion Design, a foundational course that introduces students to the coreconcepts of fashion design, including design principles, market understanding, trendanalysis, and collection development.This course guides students through the full design process from concept andinspiration to final garment while emphasizing creativity, critical thinking, and industryawareness. The ideal candidate brings both professional fashion experience and apassion for teaching emerging designers.Key Responsibilities: Deliver in-person instruction over a 12-week term (3.75 hours per session) Teach core topics including:o Elements and principles of designo Fashion history and contemporary designo Market segments and customer profilingo Trend research and analysiso Body types and designing for fito Mood board creation and concept developmento Collection development and production processes Guide students through hands-on projects such as:o Developing customer profiles and brand conceptso Conducting trend research and applying insightso Creating and presenting mood boardso Designing a cohesive fashion collectiono Developing a final garment concept from sketch to execution Facilitate critiques and encourage constructive peer feedback Provide timely, actionable feedback on student work Foster an inclusive, engaging classroom environment Track student attendance, progress, and performance Collaborate with program staff to maintain course qualityQualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field (Master’s preferred) Professional experience in fashion design or a related area of the fashionindustry Strong understanding of design principles, garment development, and fashionmarkets Knowledge of trend forecasting and fashion history Prior teaching or training experience preferred Excellent communication and presentation skillsPreferred Qualifications: Experience working across different fashion markets (e.g., womenswear,menswear, plus-size, etc.) Background in collection development or product lifecycle processes Experience mentoring students or early-career designers Familiarity with industry workflows from concept to productionSchedule: 12-week course duration Each class session is 3.75 hours Schedule to be determinedLearning Outcomes (Instructor Focus):The instructor will support students in developing the ability to: Apply the elements and principles of design to fashion concepts Analyze historical and contemporary fashion trends Identify target markets and develop customer profiles Translate inspiration into cohesive design concepts and collections Create professional mood boards and presentations Understand the end-to-end process from concept to garment productionHow to Apply:Please submit your resume/CV, cover letter, and any relevant portfolio or teachingmaterials to chloe.skalli@nysd.edu.
