Ship Training Lab Technician
Position Summary: As a Ship Training Lab Technician, you will support lab and shipboard activities for a ship sustainment program for our U.S. Navy customer. You will work alongside U.S. Navy government and civilian engineers at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. You will be responsible for maintenance, installation, and testing support activities for the four navigation system testing labs as well as occasional shipboard support for installation upgrades and ship force tech assist.Security Clearance Requirements:Active U.S. DoD security clearance required (Security clearance eligibility may be considered on a case-by-case basis.)Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Support lab testing efforts by troubleshooting and repairing lab mechanical and electrical issues Support installation and testing of newly designed hardware in the lab Occasional travel to support shipboard installations and tech support during modernization and fleet emergent events Document and update hardware installation procedures and preventative maintenance guidelines Test and validate equipment in the lab to support shipboard equipment fulfillment requests Perform board-level maintenance and fault isolation for embedded control systems Required Education, Skills, and Experience: Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering and 4-5 years of directly related work experience Ability to work well in a team environment coordinating tasks to support different work Demonstrated problem solving ability, equipment troubleshooting, and attention to detail Ability to follow equipment electrical schematics Ability to thoroughly document hardware installations Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to diagnose equipment failure root causes Experience using standard electronics test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope) Preferred Education, Skills and/or Experience: Experience with Naval or commercial shipboard machinery control systems Experience with modular backplane based hardware architecture Familiarity with basic networking conceptsPhysical Demands and Expectations: Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sittingAbility to speak, read, hear, and write with or without assistanceAbility to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax, and other office equipmentThis position description represents a summary of the major components and requirements of the outlined job.
