Project Engineer III
TheProject Engineer IIIwill be responsible for directly overseeing state and federally funded highway construction projects in the greater Roanoke area, particularly on Interstate 81. This position will work closely with the Owner/Prime Contractor and Adams field personnel to schedule, plan, and successfully complete the milling and paving portions of large construction projects.ResponsibilitiesOversee both long term and short-term scheduling for each job in accordance with the project phasingCoordinate with various internal divisions to ensure all necessary personnel and equipment for the shift are ready and availableEstablish and clearly communicate the plan and goals for each shift to all necessary partiesReview and identify potential safety or constructability issues and clearly communicate them to relevant personnelAccurately record and document daily production activities such as quantities completed, specific work locations, and any miscellaneous occurrences on the jobsite. Promptly distribute reports, as well as any necessary directives to improve production and safety, via email to all involved parties.Work closely with inspectors and QC staff to ensure all VDOT specifications are being metPhase construction to maximize efficiency while also minimizing safety hazards to both employees and traveling publicCoordinate with owner and general contractor on a regular basis to ensure overall project schedule and goals are being metRemain informed about incurred costs versus estimated costs to ensure the project is built within the estimated budgetAbility to overcome unforeseen obstacles when they arise in the fieldWillingness to work night shift as required by project schedule and prescribed DOT work hoursQualificationsAbility to read and understand highway construction plans requiredThorough understanding of construction survey grades requiredExperience managing construction crews and projects requiredStrong organizational skills are requiredExperience and understanding of asphalt milling and paving operations is highly preferredExperience working on VDOT construction projects, specifically Design Build and Bid Build projects is highly preferredCivil Engineering or other construction related degree preferred (years of relevant experience in lieu of college degree will also be considered)5+ years' experience with DOT highway construction highly preferredMust possess strong interpersonal skillsMust possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record requiredPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift and carry heavy loads of up to 75 pounds or more on a day-to-day basisThe ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objectsCapacity to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods, often ranging from 8 to 14 hours, without "giving out" or fatiguingThe ability to quickly make coordinated movements of one hand with its arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objectsThe ability to quickly move the arms and/or legsComfort working in extreme temperatures (heat and cold), humidity, and dusty environmentsBenefitsHighly competitive salary with night shift differential paid weeklyCompany truck, cell phone, laptop, and/or iPad providedProfessional development and certification reimbursement providedMedicalHealth Savings AccountEmployer paid life/AD&D insuranceVisionEmployer paid short term disability401KEmployee Assistance ProgramPaid Time Off and HolidaysEmployee Wellness ProgramThis job description should not be construed to imply that this is exclusive standards of the position.
