Structural Engineer - EIT
Header
*Job Summary*
We are seeking a motivated Structural Engineer to support and help grow our existing customer base. This position combines structural engineering, wood component design review, customer support, and coordination with other engineering and construction professionals.
The successful candidate will perform structural analysis and design; review customer wood component design submittals; develop and review project-specific design parameters; prepare, review, and revise engineering drawings; and provide practical engineering solutions to design and field-related challenges.
This position reports to the Engineering Manager and will work closely with other Professional Engineers, engineering and design staff, customers, component manufacturers, and construction professionals.

*Key Responsibilities*
* Perform structural analysis and design of residential, multifamily, and light-commercial building systems and components.
* Determine design loads, evaluate load paths, and apply applicable loading combinations in accordance with governing building codes and engineering standards.
* Size and specify structural elements including beams, headers, columns, posts, joists, rafters, connections, foundations, and other structural components.
* Analyze and design wood-framed, masonry, steel, and foundation components as required by project conditions.
* Prepare structural construction drawings, plans, sections, details, and specifications using CAD and related design software.
* Develop clear and constructible structural details that accurately communicate engineering design intent to contractors and field personnel.
* Review wood component design submittals, including roof and floor trusses, engineered wood products, and related component documentation for conformance with project design requirements and applicable engineering criteria.
* Develop, review, and maintain project-specific and customer-specific design parameters and engineering criteria.
* Prepare engineering calculations and supporting documentation for review by a Professional Engineer.
* Review drawings, calculations, and other technical work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project requirements.
* Assist in the development of engineered field modifications, repairs, and solutions to construction-related conditions.
* Coordinate design modifications and communicate engineering requirements and proper design procedures with customers.
* Assist customers in troubleshooting structural, component-design, and field-related issues.
* Communicate and coordinate with architects, designers, truss manufacturers, engineered wood product suppliers, MEP trades, general contractors, field project managers, and other project stakeholders.
* Work with Professional Engineers and the Engineering Manager to coordinate project workflow and resolve technical design issues.
* Apply practical engineering judgment to develop solutions that are structurally sound, code-compliant, constructible, and field-friendly.
* Utilize CAD, structural analysis software, component design software, and other engineering tools required to complete assigned work.
Header
*Preferred Qualifications*
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited engineering program.
* Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or eligibility to obtain certification.
* Approximately two or more years of experience in structural engineering, residential engineering, wood-frame construction, component design, or a related field.
* Demonstrated ability to perform structural calculations and size common structural building components.
* Experience preparing construction drawings and structural details using CAD software.
* Ability to understand building geometry, structural load paths, and the relationship between engineering calculations and construction details.
* Working knowledge of applicable building codes and engineering standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NDS, and other applicable wood-design standards.
* Familiarity with residential and light-commercial construction practices and methods.
* Experience with wood roof and floor truss systems and engineered wood products is preferred.
* Experience with structural analysis and design software.
* Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and component-design drawings.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information clearly to both engineering and non-engineering professionals.
* Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities while maintaining accuracy and quality.
* Desire to continue professional development and pursue Professional Engineer licensure.
What Success Looks Like
A successful candidate will be able to move comfortably between engineering calculations and construction documents—understanding not only how to size a structural element, but also how that element must be detailed, connected, supported, and constructed in the field.
As experience develops, this individual will take increasing ownership of structural design assignments, independently work through routine engineering problems, identify when conditions require additional engineering judgment, and present well-developed solutions for Professional Engineer review.
The ideal candidate will combine strong engineering fundamentals with curiosity, practical judgment, attention to detail, and an interest in understanding how engineered designs are actually built.
