Product Engineer
Position: Product EngineerLocation: Valley Green, PAAmphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, highbandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks,Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help to enable theelectronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMsglobally. Our global headquarters are located in Nashua, NH and we have design,sales and manufacturing locations globally. Our team in Valley Green, PA islooking for a Product Engineer. The Product Engineer would be the technicalexpert for one or more connector product lines responsible for planning andmanaging complex technical projects.POSITION SUMMARY:The Product Engineer will provide technical expertise in the design, developmentand manufacturing of connector products. In this cross- functional role theywill also support the overall business by executing the technical aspects of thestrategic plans of the organization, act as the technical liaison expert for thesales and marketing groups and provide direction to engineers and supportpersonnel.RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintain product quality and reliability to ensure mechanical integrity andperform failure analysis on defects from customer applications and certainmanufacturing processes.Integrate new technologies, innovative manufacturing methods, and criticalcost initiatives into aspects of process/product designs supporting new productreleases.Manage product related documentation and specifications at the componentlevel, the manufacturing processes, and field application performance bymaintaining all aspects of the product design integrity.Serve as the customer focal point in support of technical productinformation, in-field applications and general guidance related to productperformance.Work closely with internal and external suppliers and manufacturingpersonnel, supporting the development and validation of product prototypes thrupilot production, as well as interfacing with beta-site customers.Be responsible for the successful transition of products and processes fromNPI phase to volume manufacturing into low-cost regions and regular interfacingwith NPI and manufacturing engineering groups at the connector manufacturingfacilities globally.Provide technical assistance to drafters, designers, engineers and othersupport personnel in order to help them perform their duties and functions.Support the product design effort in a mechanical capacity by developing /participating in tolerance analysis work, FEA, material evaluation efforts andfailure analysis activities.Take part in efforts leading to new / alternate material identification andbenchmarking as well as participating in development of new innovativemanufacturing techniques supporting product lines.Actively participate / integrate with product designers in support of designreviews, component and product testing and qualification, and introduction ofnew products including product derivatives supporting market demands.Participate in quality investigations in order to assure product specifications.Participate in fixture design and in creating and managing test planssupporting the NPI process.Identify and facilitate a variety of project initiatives such as costimprovement, overall quality initiatives, and product performancebenchmarking.QUALIFICATIONS:BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, Materials Science degreeStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExperience with solid modeling tools (Pro/E), FEA tools a plusAbility to communicate with technical & non-technical peopleAbility to work in dynamic team environment.Desire to create and design new products and processesKnowledge of copper alloys and high-performance engineering thermoplasticswould be a plusBasic understanding of electrical connectors
