Medical Assistant

Under the direction of the Director of Specialty Medicine, this position is responsible for patient care in the cardiology clinical setting. Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep clinic operations running smoothly. Duties and responsibilities may range from but are not limited to taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination. The Medical Assistant must have HEDIS and I-Star knowledge and participation, and act under the supervision of the Clinic Director. The Medical Assistant must maintain adherence to policies, procedures and regulations of the company and participate in an interdisciplinary and inter-facility approach to achieving the mission, philosophy, and goals of the company. The Medical Assistant will interact with other departments, clinical personnel, and outside providers in a professional and friendly manner, to create and maintain a positive relationship with our internal and external customers. Exhibit proper telephone etiquette. Active participation in and compliance with all the HEDIS and I-Star quality measures are prime responsibilities to assist providers to achieve predetermined company goals. Ensure proper handling, administration, and documentation of all medication and vaccines as ordered by the provider. Anticipate, assist and perform procedures ordered by the provider. Performs sterile technique setup and maintain sterile field when necessary. Exhibit competency in procedures/services offered in the Cardiology Clinic. Responsible for following the Standard/Universal Precautions of hand washing, using PPE, basic knowledge of infection control and medical waste management for clinic setting. Process all incoming correspondence ensuring the following are completed prior to giving to the provider: patient's chart number, last visit, next visit date, refill requests, reports, results, paperwork. Responsible for activating the Chain of Command if there are abnormal vital signs. Responsible to "room" patients, do the intake notes, including vital signs and complete NextGen MA Workflow. Responsible to ensure that the recent results of any tests, referral notes, or hospital notes are retrieved and are ready for provider review. Responsible for performing "nurse only" visits with appropriate documentation: Provider's signature Task provider for completion Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of resuscitation equipment/STAT Box. Ensuring the monthly checks of the supplies and medication expiration dates are completed and logs are up to date. Responsible for setting up for minor procedures. Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment. Knowledge of patient forms (as applicable by specialty departments). Responsible for sterilizing & disinfecting surgical instruments: autoclave instruments, preparation, and operation. Administer medication as prescribed within scope of practice. Perform CLIA waived testing, moderate complexity testing and quality control (as applicable by specialty department). Initiate/participate in Code White, Code Blue, and Code Red situations as they arise within scope of practice. Understand the referral process & how to advise patients (as applicable by specialty department). Refill Maintenance Medications (understand importance & internal policy for refills as applicable by specialty department). Responsible for managing "tasks" that include clearing tasks inbox daily, sending and receiving tasks. Handle complaints in a responsible and professional manner. Assist with submission of referrals for the providers and case managers as applicable by clinic. Other duties as assigned by the Director. Requirements: 8.1 High school diploma or GED equivalent required. 8.2 One (1) year experience in a physician's office; Cardiology experience preferred. 8.3 Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program with MA Diploma/Certificate. 8.4 Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. 8.5 Current Venipuncture Certification. 8.6 Knowledge of computers. The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be reasonably between $26.09 and $30.69. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
