The successful candidate will have 3 or more years of litigation experience, representing clients in the healthcare industry. Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.Responsibilities:Manage all aspects of medical malpractice litigation, including initial case assessment, discovery, depositions, motions, trial preparation, and trial.Prepare court pleadings including drafting motions and responses and answering discovery requests.Work with medical experts to develop case strategies and understand complex medical issues.Research and draft memoranda of law and briefs.Participate in pretrial and trial hearings. Prepare attorneys and clients for trials and depositions.Participate in preparation of appeal briefs, responses and attorney preparation for oral arguments.Required Skills and Preferences:3 or more years of litigation experience required. Medical Malpractice experience preferred.Skilled at meeting deadlines under significant time pressure.Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of professionalism and client orientation.Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and work independently.Ability to manage time and resources effectively and independently.Education:Juris Doctorate degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association with an outstanding academic record.Admission to the Virginia Bar.Must be and remain licensed to practice law and in good standing in the State of Virginia.During employment, must meet requirement for continuing licensure for law practice; some opportunities for obtaining in-house CLE through Kaufman & Canoles will be available.
