The LightHouse is currently in a period of growth, increasing our capacity to serve more low-vision and blind clients.*Blind/visually impaired strongly encouraged to apply.Overview:The arts and crafts program area leader is responsible for preparing and implementing safe, fun, and appropriate programs for the blind and visually impaired children and adults. They will coordinate and oversee all camp arts and crafts activities.Examples of Activities include:CeramicsJewelry makingDrawingPaintingNature craftsCookingLeather craftsTactile craftsPuppetsTie-dyingPapermakingOthersQualifications:Must be 18 years of age or olderHigh School graduateSome college education preferredCurrent First Aid and CPR certificationsPrevious work in a camp, school, or community service settingExperience working with individuals who are blind/visually impaired preferredKnowledge of Braille and/or sign language preferredJob Responsibilities:Arts & Crafts Program LeadershipPlan, direct, and supervise a safe, engaging, and creative arts and crafts program.Lead and instruct classes and activities in the arts and crafts areas.Evaluate the success of arts and crafts programs and activities, making improvements as needed.Safety & Staff TrainingTrain staff on their responsibilities in the arts and crafts areas, ensuring proper supervision and instruction.Ensure all campers and staff follow arts and crafts safety guidelines.Assist counselors in developing art kits for cabins or special events.Facility & Equipment ManagementSet up and maintain arts and crafts program areas.Teach and monitor proper use of materials and equipment.Conduct daily safety and cleanliness checks in arts and crafts spaces.Maintain inventory of arts and crafts supplies, ensuring timely replacements.Camper & Staff SupervisionAssist with camper placements in arts and crafts classes and living assignments as needed.Evaluate volunteers, Counselors-in-Training (CITs), and counselors throughout the summer, providing feedback to the Assistant Director.Step in as a camp counselor when necessary to support camper supervision.Camp Engagement & CollaborationParticipate enthusiastically in all camp activities, leading and assisting as assigned.Help organize and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and all-camp activities.Attend and actively participate in all staff meetings.Expectation of Employees:Read, understand and adhere to 100% of agency policies and proceduresComplete 100% of job responsibilities and assigned tasks efficiently by prioritizing work as needed to meet deadlines, ensuring safety, wellbeing and positive experience for campers.Consistently maintain a positive and respectful attitude in 100% of interactions with staff and campers while conducting ourselves professionally on and off the job as representatives of LightHouse.Consistently report to work on time and be ready to begin performing our assigned duties and responsibilities with no more than two exceptions per camp session.Work productively or stay engaged with campers during at least 95% of program activities, all camp activities, cabin time and all other time that is not designated as time off.Communicate regularly with supervisors, campers, and colleagues in our immediate teams and across the agency, ensuring 100% of verbal and written communication is clear, professional, effective, and done in a timely manner.Maintain 100% confidentiality of individual health, behavior concerns, and other personal information of campers and staff.Consistently learn and communicate a blindness-positive philosophy by applying current best practices in 100% of interactions, as assessed through regular supervisor, participant, and peer feedback.Consistently demonstrate respect and inclusivity by using culturally appropriate language and behavior in 100% of interactions, as assessed through regular supervisor, participant, and peer feedback.Physical Requirements:Must be willing to live on camp premisesMust be able to lift 70 poundsAbility to enforce safety and emergency proceduresAbility to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activityPhysical ability to respond appropriately to situation requiring first aidMust be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury)Must possess the endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campersWorking Conditions:LightHouse is an equal opportunity employer.
