You can learn more about Coro California at coroca.org.About the RoleWhat You\'ll DoWe are seeking a strategic Chief Finance and Operating Officer (CFOO) to join Coro California at a pivotal moment of integration and growth. As a key member of the executive leadership team, you will serve as the organizational architect, leading finance, human capital strategy, and enterprise operations. The CFOO will ensure strong fiscal stewardship while building the HR infrastructure and operational systems necessary to support Coro\'s statewide impact, long-term sustainability, and growth.In this role, you will take primary ownership of Coro\'s financial health and operational strategy, overseeing budgeting and forecasting, while strengthening HR functions to drive talent development and performance. You\'ll translate financial and operational data into strategic, actionable insights for the executive team and the Board, ensuring that internal systems support clarity, accountability, and informed decision-making across the organization. Managing a team of four, the CFOO will bring vision and structure to functions that are evolving post-merger, driving collaboration across departments and ensuring statewide operational alignment.This is an ideal role for a strategic operator with nonprofit finance and operational expertise who can move seamlessly between spreadsheets and enterprise-level strategy, board conversations, and day-to-day execution, bringing both rigor and practicality to building the people-centered infrastructure that powers Coro\'s work across California.Key Responsibilities:Leadership, Strategy & GovernancePartner with the CEO and executive team to align financial and operational strategy with Coro California\'s evolving statewide visionServe as a strategic thought partner on organizational planning, sustainability, and resource allocationAct as primary liaison to the Board Finance Committee, preparing materials and facilitating strategic discussions on financial health and performanceManage and develop a high-impact finance and operations team of four, including mentoring emerging leaders and supporting professional growthSupport post-merger integration by building aligned systems, structures, and operating rhythms across regionsContribute to organization-wide strategy by bringing a financial and operational lens to key decisions and trade-offsPartner cross-functionally with program, partnerships, and leadership teams to ensure alignment between strategy, budget, and execution, advancing strategic prioritiesFinancial Strategy & Budget ManagementLead all financial functions, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, cash flow management, and oversight of external accounting partnersEnsure accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data, including audits, tax filings (e.g., Form 990), and compliance with nonprofit best practicesTranslate financial data into clear, actionable insights to support executive decision-making and Board engagementPartner with executive and program leadership to align budgets, revenue projections, and grant/contract management with programmatic goals, while supporting financial planning for organizational growth and statewide expansionStrengthen financial systems and processes to support transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainabilityOperations, Human Resources & Infrastructure ManagementBuild and refine operational infrastructure, updating legacy systems as needed, to support a growing, statewide organizationLead human resources strategy, including hiring, performance management, compensation, benefits, compliance, and professional development, with an eye toward long-term health and succession planningOversee organizational risk management, insurance, and safety protocols, ensuring policies and procedures are current, effective, and well-understoodDirect statewide administrative operations, including HR, technology infrastructure (systems selection, implementation, data security, IT support), and facilities management across Bay Area and Los Angeles officesManage and strengthen relationships with external vendors (e.g. HR, IT, accounting, insurance, facilities), ensuring high-quality, cost-effective supportSupport the continued evolution of program operations in partnership with program leadership, helping to clarify roles, workflows, and ownership in a post-merger contextWho You\'ll Work WithYou will report to the President & CEO.You will directly manage a team of four, including:Director, Program OperationsManager, Program OperationsTwo Managers, Program & Administrative OperationsYou will also oversee external vendor relationships, work closely with the Chief of Staff, Chief Program Officer, and Chief Partnerships Officer, and engage regularly with the Board Finance Committee.Required Skills and ExperiencePassion for Coro\'s mission and commitment to nonpartisan cross-sector leadership development10+ years of senior leadership experience in strategic finance and operations within a nonprofit or mission-driven organizationDemonstrated expertise in nonprofit finance, including budgeting, forecasting, audit management, and complianceExperience working with external accounting partners and translating financial data into strategic insightsDemonstrated ability to build or strengthen organizational systems and infrastructureTrack record of leading teams and supporting significant organizational change or growthStrong cross-functional leadership skills, with the ability to partner across programmatic and external-facing teamsBrings a data-driven approach to decision-makingStrong operational, project management, and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, including staff, board members, alumni, funders, and partnersAdditional DetailsLocation and Work EnvironmentCoro has a hybrid work policy, with employees expected to work in person from their regional office (San Francisco or Los Angeles) every Wednesday and on-site as needed for program, development, and event-related activities.
