Support Specialist

The Support Specialist meets with clients using homecare services, particularly Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) service users to learn their needs and liaise with other providers to create support that is tailored to individual wants and needs.ResponsibilitiesCommunication with service recipients via in-person, phone or email.Determining need, then assisting individuals with disabilities to overcome barriers to wellness and independenceCollaboration with local service providers to assist service recipientsFamiliarity with Independent Living’s (IL) core services of information and referral, Independent Living skills training, peer counseling, individual, and systems advocacyFollowing supervisors’ directions and proceduresDocumentation as required for the services assignedPromoting FLIC’s mission and goals in to offer appropriate support to service usersRequirements and SkillsFamiliarity with service providers in the Tompkins/Cortland/Tioga countiesExcellent communication skills and the ability to impart information in a way that is accessible to home care service usersEmpathy and the ability to identify with service users’ areas of needUnderstanding and maintaining reasonable boundariesExcellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to manage assigned workloadStrong problem-solving skillsResilience and the ability to maintain a professional approach even in difficult circumstancesExcellent critical thinking skillsThe ability to write and deliver accurate and thorough reporting as requiredDriver’s license and reliable vehicle. Able to travel to all parts of Tompkins and surrounding counties to meet people in their homesStrong skills and accountability working independently, combined with good judgement about when a team approach is neededSkills to provide technical help to consumers with apps and platformsExperience and Academic RequirementsLived experience with disability preferredExperience with homecare including CDPAP a plusFamiliar with documentationAssociate’s degree in a relevant field OR equivalent experience in the helping servicesExperience working with a caseload in a relevant field is preferredSalary Range: $24 - $26 / hour, plus benefitsWork Location: In-person
