Food Warehouse Driver

Food Warehouse Driver Met Council is America's largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 120 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.The Food Warehouse Driver is responsible for safely operating a 26-foot truck to pick up and distribute food, while supporting day-to-day warehouse operations when not on the road.Principal Responsibilities:Pick up food from partner agencies, suppliers, and other donorsDeliver food to agencies courteously and on timeOversee the loading and unloading of the truckMaintain accurate vehicle logs and track deliveriesCoordinate pickups and deliveries with other driversPerform routine truck maintenance and daily vehicle inspectionsSupport day-to-day warehouse operations when needed (including moving pallets, stacking product, organizing the warehouse, and conducting inventory)Additional responsibilities as assignedCompetencies:Significant organizational skillsStrong attention to detailExcellent time management skillsProblem-Solving / AdaptabilityAbility to work independently and on a teamSuperior customer service skillsSkill and Education:High-school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience (required)Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with clean driving record (required)5+ years of experience driving a truck with a CDLAbility to operate warehouse equipment including electric jacks and forklift (required); 5+ years of experience operating warehouse equipment (preferred)Familiarity with New York City roadsComfortable using an iPad/tablet and smartphone for data entry, inventory management, and communicationAbility to read/write/speak EnglishPhysical Demands/Special Requirements:Requires extended periods of standing, walking, and performing manual labor both indoors and outdoors, including in inclement weather.Requires the ability to lift, carry, and move heavy items (up to 30-pounds to stock shelves) on a regular basis.Steel-toe work boots must be worn at all times while in the warehouse. Clothing should be appropriate for a professional setting and public interactions, avoiding any profanity, political statements or offensive branding.Compensation: $21 - $25 per hour, commensurate with skills and experienceBenefits: Major medical, dental, vision and life insurance; pre-tax commuter benefits; FSA; 403(b) with employer contribution; plus generous vacation, sick leave and holidays.
