Medical Assistant/Scribe
Overview:
The Medical Assistant Scribe provides patient care in a physician’s office setting under the direct responsibility of a licensed physician and to assist the physician with documentation for patient’s medical chart. Clinical skills performed are within the scope of a Medical Assistant as defined by Florida Statutes 458.3485 and CFH Clinical Policy and Procedure. The MA may also perform clerical, insurance, and medical record functions. May be required to float to other practices, as needed, for staffing.
JOB RESPONSIBLITIES
Serves as a patient care advocate by providing comfort, privacy, and support to the patient and communicates patient’s needs to the provider.
Able to identify deviations in vital signs outside of accepted parameters for specific patient practice populations. Deviations are reported to the appropriate Licensed Medical Practitioner or provider.
Identifies patient situations that require the need to access additional resources (ex: appropriate equipment available, unclear provider order, patient safety issues, etc.)
Coordinates and maintains practice schedule.
Informs patients of practice delays, informs practice management as appropriate and monitors patient throughout visit.
Facilitates room turnover and room preparation between patients.
Medication specific protocols are followed when appropriate.
Knowledge of casting techniques and appropriate application as needed.
Real time documentation of medication administration is appropriately recorded in the patients’ medical record and other databases as required.
Maintains a patient-centered focus, providing cheerful, efficient, enthusiastic, positive service and ensuring the experience consistently exceeds patient expectations.
Rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and checked for expired items regularly
Safety risks are minimized through compliance with policies, procedures, and protocols (temperature logs, etc.).
Participates in float staff assistance when requested.
Updating patient history, physical exam, plan of care and other pertinent health information in EPIC as instructed by the provider.
Organizing and sending all documentation to physician for review
Completes assigned work as scheduled in allotted time frame.
Engages in departmental/hospital committees, PI projects, educational offerings to peers, mentoring/precepting of new team members.
Attends Staff Meetings, completes all required competencies and mandatory education as assigned.
Seeks training, educational, certification and enhancement in area focus/specialty.
Demonstrates behavior standards that enhance positive interactions with physicians, peers, patients and family members.
Completes other duties as requested/assigned.
Education
Highschool Graduate or equivalent
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Current certification or registration as a Medical Assistant Preferred.
Basic Life Support (CPR) required or must be obtained within first month of employment. Must maintain current Basic Life Support (CPR).
