DescriptionPosition: Instructional AssistantLocation: Days Park Campus - 40 Days Park, Buffalo, NY 14201Status: Full Time ExemptDuration: 10.5 Month EmployeeReports to: PrincipalSalary: The expected compensation for this position is $27,000-$32,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience and education.The Instructional Assistant is the perfect opportunity for those who are looking at becoming a certified teacher. The Instructional Assistant is with one classroom of students and works with the General Education Teacher to foster a culture of learningWe are looking for a student-centered, dynamic Instructional Assistant who will:Provide support to our teachers and staff members by fostering a culture of academic rigor and achievementWork with teachers to address individual learning needs of studentsPlan and provide the Social Emotional Curriculum to the classroomDeliver instruction planned by general education teacher including providing small group instructionKeep students on task by engaging them in the lessonComplete documentation for RTI under the supervision of the general education teacherProvide Academic Intervention Support (AIS) under direction of general education teacherAssist in classroom set-up and logistics - prepping student materials or manipulatives, classroom beautification and maintenance, etc.Provide lunch supervisionSupport in student behavioral management and de-escalating challenging student behaviorsEnsure the safety of students at all timesSupervise students in and out of classroom as needed - this may include but is not limited to - moving students to proper locations during fire drills, lunch and recess duty, enrichment activities/classes, etc.Provide an inviting, exciting, stimulating, and innovative learning environmentMaintain a classroom environment conducive to learning by following the Responsive Classroom and Cooperative Discipline modelsEnable students to develop social responsibility by faithfully following the Responsive Classroom and Cooperative Discipline modelsAdditional responsibilities to meet the needs of our studentsWhat We Look ForHas commitment to the Mission and Core Values of Elmwood Village Charter SchoolHas commitment to continuous improvement principlesCan form relationships and work with young children in a nurturing school environmentHas a passion and commitment for social justice, diversity and equity in educationCan communicate in a positive and professional manner across the schoolCan build interpersonal relationships with diverse audiencesMaintains a positive attitude, even in the face of pressureIs a team player and open to receiving feedbackThrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, and is flexibleIs solutions-oriented and completes tasks and projects effectively and in a timely mannerTakes initiative, prioritizes tasks effectively, and can work independently with little directionMaintains confidentiality and exercises discretion in the dissemination of informationCan gather and organize data and solve problems effectively RequirementsQualificationsAbility to build strong relationships with children and engaging them in lessonsAbility to pass a NYS Education Department background checkExcellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and on a teamPreferred QualificationsExperience working with students preferably in a classroom settingNew York State Elementary Teaching Certificate or NYS Certification as an Instructional AssistantBachelor's Degree
