Athletic Director
Who We Are:The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Athletic Director for the 2026-2027 school year to manage and coordinate the school district athletic activities and sports programs to promote athletics and physical fitness as positive extra-curricular activities, and to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to participate and share in the benefits of the district's athletic programs. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. We are Wildcats!As an Athletic Director, you are required to:Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or universityKnowledge and understanding of the overall operations of an athletic programMember of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators AssociationValid teaching license preferredCertified Athletic Administrator (CAA) certification preferredExperience in athletics (as Varsity Head Coach) at the university or high school levelAdministrative experienceAs an Athletic Director, you will:Evaluates the extra-curricular athletic programs and engages in long-range planningAssesses department needs through consultation with students, staff, parents and develops policy recommendations for the Board's consideration and actionMaintains files and records required by policy, regulation, law and good practiceAttends all mandatory meetings including but not limited to (GWOC, school coaches, pre-season parent meetings)Implements board policies and advises the administration on legal matters related to athletics.Develops and updates brochures, handbooks and policy manualsConducts research related to athletic programsKeeps the school community informed about the extracurricular athletic programsPresents a positive image of Springfield City School District through professional and ethical conductEngages in fiscal planning- both short and long-rangeAssists in preparing and implementing the school system budget and coordinates department purchasingRecommends capital improvements and negotiated contracts and agreementsFormulates specifications to be incorporated into contracts and bidsServes as a consultant in the selection of supplies and materialsSupervises all ticket sales and fundraising events connected with the athletic programs and assumes responsibility for proper handling and accounting of monies involvedAdministers the receipt and disbursement of student activity cash fundsConducts salary and wage surveysSupervises and guides the fiscal planning/execution of all parent volunteer organizations supporting high school and middle school athletic programsPrepares schedules for use of facilitiesIssues timely announcements of upcoming events and deadlinesOrganizes, schedules and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics in conjunction with GWOC commissioner and coachesHires officials, team physicians, supervisors and police, for supervision of home contests.Arranges transportation for athletic contest participantsVerifies each athlete's eligibility for participation in each sportArranges all details of visiting teams' needs, as appropriateProvides for emergency health care and first aid treatmentArranges field, gymnasium and aquatics center practice schedules, including arrangements for summer recreation programs and non-school use of playing fields and facilitiesRecruits, screens, interviews and recommends prospective coachesMakes coaching assignment recommendationsSupervises and evaluates coaching staff and other athletic personnelPerforms other duties as assignedWhat We Offer:As a contracted employee, this position is assigned to work 228 days per year and 8 hours per day.* Salary details are available within the SASO/SAST AgreementStarting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education.Contracted employees receive competitive benefits.All employees receive professional developmentThe SASO/SAST agreement and the Board of Education are currently working on a new professional agreement. While that is in the works, please refer to the current agreement as to pay and benefits that are in place for the 2025-26 school year.
