*Position Summary:*
We're seeking an experienced Directional Drill Operator to support underground telecommunications construction projects. This role is responsible for safely operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment, coordinating with the drill locator, and ensuring accurate and efficient bore paths for fiber and coax installation.
*Responsibilities:*
* Operate horizontal directional drilling rigs and support equipment for underground conduit and cable installation
* Work closely with the drill locator to maintain correct bore path, depth, and alignment
* Set up and break down drill equipment, including rods, reamers, water systems, and vacuum excavators
* Perform potholing and safe digging practices to avoid existing utilities
* Complete bore logs, production sheets, and required field documentation
* Inspect, maintain, and perform minor repairs on HDD equipment and tools
* Load, haul, and transport equipment and materials using CDL vehicles
* Follow DOTCOM and OSHA safety procedures, including conducting daily site and equipment inspections
* Communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, inspectors, and clients
*Qualifications:*
* 2 or more years of experience operating directional drill rigs in telecommunications or utility construction
* Experience with drill brands such as Vermeer or Ditch Witch
* Knowledge of proper bore planning, drill fluid management, and pullback procedures
* Ability to read construction prints, utility maps, and locate marks
* Strong understanding of underground utility safety standards
* Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions
