Employment Law Associate Attorney
Peabody & Arnold LLP seeks a career-minded associate-level attorney to work on a variety of issues in the employment practice group. This position will, among other things, perform research, writing and other work relating to all areas of employment law, including, but not limited to, discrimination/retaliation/wrongful termination litigation, wage and hour litigation, breach of contract issues, as well as other statutory and common law claims under state and federal law. This position will also support employer clients by providing day-to-day advice and guidance on a variety of issues impacting the employment relationship. Responsibilities:Perform research into a variety of employment mattersDraft and revise employer handbooks and policiesCommunicate directly with clients for a variety of reasons including providing day-to-day legal advice, as neededDraft position statements and responses to administrative charges (EEOC, Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and other regional commissions and boards)Draft motions in federal and state courtRespond to discovery requestsDraft deposition outlines, prepare exhibits, prepare witnessesConduct and/or defend depositions, where appropriateAssist partners in preparing for mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings, fact finding conferences, and trialsSecond chair and, where appropriate, first chair mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings and trialsSkills and Educational Requirements:JD from accredited law school and excellent academic credentialsActive MA bar admission or ability to obtain admission quickly is required; admission to other regional bars, such as RI, CT, or NH, is a plus1-4+ years of litigation experience or employment counseling experienceOutstanding research, writing, and analytic skillsStrong communication skillsAttention to detail and commitment to organization and excellenceAbility to multitask and work independently within a collaborative team settingPeabody & Arnold understands the importance of having a workforce that reflects the various communities in which we work, and we strive to create an inclusive environment where diverse employees want to work and where they can flourish professionally.
