Employment Type:Full-time (40 hours per week)Base Hourly:$19.89Class/Calendar:B21, 9.25 monthsBenefits:Sick leave, holidays, retirement matched through the Arizona State Retirement System, health, and life insurancePerformance Pay:Available annuallyNew Hire Experience:1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximumNew Hire Education:1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the positionJob Summary:To assist in monitoring and providing security and protection for special education students, staff and property; to gather information to de-escalate situations, resolve behavior concerns and determine appropriate response; to convey information and provide written support.Key Responsibilities:Evaluate specific security needs of classrooms and across campus to ensure a safe environmentEvaluate emergency situations to determine appropriate response to ensure safety of students, staff and propertyAssist in non-crisis or physical intervention or restraint during de-escalation of studentsMonitor, observe and document behavior of students in seclusion or reset roomMay be required to assist students who need support in addressing personal care needs due to a severe medical condition and/or physical limitations (i.e. toileting, feeding, dressing suctioning, etc) to ensure their functioning in a school environmentTransfer and/or lift students to assist them in the performance of their daily activitiesIdentify students and non-students who are in violation of school rules or state laws and report to the appropriate authoritiesAssist in student control in surrounding neighborhood as appropriateAssist bus driver with bus security and discipline problems; ride school bus as neededIdentify students and non-students who are in violation of school rules or state laws and report to the appropriate authoritiesParticipate in various meetings to share information and/or improve skills and knowledgeServe as witness in a disciplinary due process hearing or court case as requiredSubmit oral and written reports to school/district as requiredAbility to work over contractual hours when neededRegular and on-time attendance requiredAssists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools Required Qualifications:High School diploma or GED Skills & Competencies:Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate. Constant movement between locations. Responding quickly to incidents, emergencies, or behavioral issuesMay deal with confrontations, disciplinary issues, or safety threatsRequires maintaining composure and professionalism under pressure.
