Manufacturing Test Technician - Refrigeration
Job Overview
The Test Technician is responsible for building, maintaining, and operating test stands to validate the performance, reliability, and safety of industrial refrigerated chillers and Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs). This role supports manufacturing and engineering by executing test plans, collecting accurate data, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining a safe, organized laboratory environment.
Responsibilities
Test Stand Build & Maintenance
Assemble, plumb, wire, and commission test stands for liquid-to-air and liquid-to-liquid chiller systems and CDUs
Install and configure pumps, heat exchangers, valves, sensors, instrumentation, controls, and data acquisition systems
Modify and improve test fixtures as needed to support new products or test requirements
Maintain test equipment, calibration status, and spare parts inventory
Product Testing & Validation
Execute functional, performance, endurance, and safety tests according to test plans and procedures
Operate refrigeration systems including compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion devices, and control systems
Monitor and record temperatures, pressures, flow rates, power consumption, and other critical parameters
Identify, troubleshoot, and document test failures or anomalies; collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams on root cause and corrective actions
Ensure tests are conducted safely and in compliance with internal procedures and applicable standards
Documentation & Reporting
Accurately document test setups, procedures, results, and observations
Maintain test logs, data files, and reports in designated systems
Provide clear feedback to engineering and manufacturing regarding test outcomes and product performance
Lab Upkeep, Tools & Safety
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient test laboratory
Manage tools, test equipment, and consumables; ensure proper storage and availability
Follow and enforce lab safety practices including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, pressure systems, refrigerant handling, and PPE requirements
Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement of lab safety procedures.
Qualifications
Required
2+ years of experience as a test technician, manufacturing technician, or similar role in an industrial or laboratory environment
Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, plumbing, and basic electrical wiring
Familiarity with any of the following, refrigeration systems, HVAC equipment, pumps, heat exchangers, and fluid systems
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and test procedures
Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail
Preferred
Experience testing industrial chillers, CDUs, or similar thermal management equipment
Knowledge of instrumentation such as thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transducers, flow meters, and power meters
Experience with data acquisition systems and basic controls (PLC or HMI exposure a plus)
EPA refrigerant handling certification or willingness to obtain
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $30.00 - $43.00 per hour
