Principal Appian EngineerBrooksourceFortune 50 Health Insurance ClientRemotePosition OverviewWe are seeking a Principal Software Engineer with deep expertise in the Appian low-code platform to join our client's Quality Automation & Modernization group. This role will serve as a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing enterprise workflow and case management solutions using Appian.This position requires a strong practitioner mindset-approximately 75% hands-on development and 25% consulting/technical leadership-supporting multiple enterprise initiatives while helping guide the organization's Appian strategy and engineering standards. The team is currently expanding its Appian capabilities and investing in upskilling engineers. This role will help close key gaps in Appian development expertise, support platform rationalization efforts, and evaluate opportunities to migrate workflow applications from other platforms into Appian.The ideal candidate combines principal-level enterprise experience, deep Appian technical knowledge, and hands-on development skills to deliver scalable and maintainable platform solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesSolution Design & DevelopmentDesign, develop, and enhance enterprise software solutions using Appian low-code capabilities, including:Process ModelsSAIL InterfacesRecord TypesExpression RulesReusable componentsLead hands-on development of workflow and case management applications supporting multiple concurrent enterprise initiatives.Build scalable and maintainable solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and engineering standards.Participate in platform rationalization efforts, helping determine which applications should be built or migrated to Appian.Platform Engineering & OptimizationApply advanced expertise in Appian platform configuration, security models, and performance optimization.Evaluate and implement new Appian platform features and upgrades to improve scalability and developer productivity.Establish and maintain consistent development standards, reusable components, and governance practices across the Appian platform.Integration & Data ConnectivityDevelop and support Appian integrations using:RESTful servicesEnterprise APIsExternal data sources and enterprise systemsEnsure secure, reliable, and scalable integration with internal platforms and services.Technical LeadershipServe as a technical authority for the Appian platform, guiding architecture decisions and solution design.Provide mentorship and guidance to development teams as the organization continues expanding its Appian expertise.Promote engineering excellence through standards, reusable patterns, and shared platform capabilities.QualificationsRequiredExtensive experience developing enterprise solutions on the Appian platform.Strong expertise in:Appian process modeling and workflow designSAIL interface developmentRecord types and data modelingExpression rules and reusable componentsExperience integrating Appian with REST APIs, enterprise systems, and external data sources.Deep understanding of Appian platform security, performance tuning, and governance.Proven ability to support multiple concurrent enterprise initiatives.Experience operating at a Principal or Lead Engineer level within enterprise environments.Experience collaborating with cloud architecture teams; familiarity with Azure preferred, with Google Cloud as a secondary option.PreferredExperience leading enterprise-scale Appian implementations.Familiarity with case management and workflow automation solutions.Experience establishing development standards, architecture patterns, and platform governance.Strong mentorship and collaboration skills within engineering organizations.Experience supporting platform migration or modernization initiatives.Disclaimer: Brooksource, Medasource, and Calculated Hire are part of the Eight Eleven Group family of companies and operate under Eight Eleven Group, LLC.
