Stepdown Unit Nurse (RN) in Charlotte, NC

Provide skilled nursing care in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) specializing in adult medical patients including CHF, COPD, sepsis, diabetic emergencies, and more. This opportunity involves working in a newly opening 12-bed unit with progressive growth, located in the greater Charlotte, NC area. The role demands adaptability, clinical expertise, and confidence in managing complex patient needs within a multidisciplinary environment.Key Responsibilities:Deliver direct patient care including IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, central line management, NG tube insertion, and administration/titration of drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, and insulin.Monitor cardiac rhythms and utilize EPIC EMR for documentation and patient management.Perform lab draws independently and manage ventilated patients or Precedex drips after orientation.Collaborate with CNAs, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists to ensure comprehensive care.Float within a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio when required to other regional facilities within the Charlotte medical network.Qualifications/Desired Experience:Current RN licensure.Minimum 2 years PCU experience; first-time travelers accepted with 5+ years PCU experience.Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.Comfort with drips, advanced nursing skills, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.EPIC EMR experience required.Ability and willingness to float to other nearby facilities as needed.Schedule/Hours:12-hour shifts: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700.Weekend rotation: approximately 6 weekends per 6-week cycle.Holiday coverage: approximately 75% of holidays per contract.Benefits & Perks:Free parking.Supportive team culture with a charge nurse and 24/7 hospitalist and anesthesia coverage.Paid travel time between facilities when floating mid-shift.Location Insights: This role is based near Charlotte, NC, a vibrant city recognized for its strong healthcare infrastructure and growing medical community.
