Job Title: Coordinator - English Language Arts Reading ElementaryReports to: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and InstructionDept./School: Curriculum and InstructionWage/Hour Status: ExemptPay Grade: AC3 - 226 daysDate Revised: 05/18/2022Primary Purpose:The Elementary English Language Arts Reading (ELAR) Coordinator provides leadership through collaborative processes to formulate, develop, implement, and evaluate the English/Spanish Language Arts and Reading curriculum and content. The ELAR Coordinator provides instructional leadership and supports classroom teaching to promote positive change and commitment to engaged learning environments in order to positively impact student achievement. The ELAR Specialist ensures an aligned and articulated PreK-5 instructional environment.Education and Certification RequirementsBachelor's degree / Master's degree preferredValid Teacher Certi?cate (English Language Arts/Reading or Reading Specialist Certi?cation)Minimum 3 years teaching experience in English Language Arts or as a Reading SpecialistExperience trainer for campus district language arts and/or reading initiatives (preferred)Campus leadership experience (preferred)Special Knowledge/Skills:Working knowledge of curriculum design and instructionELA/SLA or BiliteracyAbility to evaluate instructional programs and teaching e?ectivenessExperience and expertise in the implementation of di?erentiated and collaborative teaching structuresAbility to develop and deliver training to adult learnersAbility to interpret policy, procedures, and dataStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsMajor Responsibilities and Duties:GeneralDemonstrates thoroughness, reliability and a high degree of accuracy in performing work assignments.Works cooperatively with others and maintains a positive attitude in the work environment.Demonstrates initiative and good judgment in problem solving and decision-making.Reports promptly and maintains good attendance.Uses time productively on the job.Follows district policies, rules and regulationsProvide support for family literacy opportunities.Accepts supervisory directionStrives to improve job skillsDemonstrates tact, courtesy and helpfulness in dealing with staff, students, parents, and visitors in the district.Instructional and Program Support:Provide instructional leadership through collaborative processes in order to formulate, develop, implement, and evaluate the English Language Arts and Reading curriculum and content so that an aligned and articulated ELAR instructional program is maintained.Provide instructional leadership and coaching that supports classroom teaching that promotes commitment for engaged learning environments in order to positively impact student achievement district-wide.In collaboration with Curriculum and Instruction staff, lead the development, implementation and evaluation of data-driven initiatives in alignment with the district's goals ensuring that all ELAR curricular services/programs meet or make satisfactory progress towards district goals.Consult and collaborate with principals and school staff to ensure programs are appropriately addressed in campus and district goals.Support all professional learning and core content instruction including audits, trainings, and coaching walk-throughs by collaboration with and support of all offices and departments district-wide.Research, communicate, and implement current trends and best practices for delivery of services, curriculum development and implementation, teaching and support strategies through professional development offerings.Lead initiatives and provide support for adoption of resources and instructional materials, and provide training to teachers, administrators, and specialists for implementation.Provide support for new and veteran ELAR teachers through beginning of year orientations and on-going communications. Routinely visit classrooms and participate in instructional delivery. Use observation tools and data to give feedback to teachers through instructional coaching.Provide support to all teachers through professional development offerings designed to increase student performance through best practices.Provide support for all teachers by serving as a consultant, adviser, and liaison regarding curriculum-related problems.Report progress toward goals, objectives, and initiatives to teachers, campus administrators, and district administrators.Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Maintain emotional control under stress.
