Underground Ore Control Geologist

Position Overview: Rangefront Mining Services is seeking an Underground Ore Control Geologist to support one of our mining industry clients. This role is responsible for supporting safe and efficient mining operations through geological mapping, grade control sampling, ore delineation, and geologic interpretation. The Underground Ore Control Geologist works closely with Operations, Engineering, Survey, and Mine Planning teams to maximize ore recovery, minimize dilution, and ensure accurate ore/waste classification. Key Responsibilities: Ore Control & Geological Support Conduct underground face, rib, and back mapping in active mining areas. Collect and manage grade control samples from headings, stopes, development rounds, and muck piles. Interpret lithology, alteration, structure, and mineralization to define ore boundaries and support production decisions. Provide ore/waste classifications and geological guidance to mine operations. Monitor ore loss and dilution and assist with reconciliation activities. Maintain accurate geological maps, sample records, and production data. Prepare daily ore control and geological reports. Core Logging & Data Management Log drill core for lithology, alteration, mineralization, structure, recovery, and RQD. Collect and manage core samples in accordance with QA/QC procedures. Maintain accurate core logs, sample records, and photographic documentation. Integrate drilling, mapping, sampling, and assay data into geological and ore control models. Assist with underground definition drilling programs and geological model updates. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Survey, and Mine Planning teams. Participate in daily production and planning meetings. Communicate geological observations and recommendations clearly and effectively. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a closely related field required. Experience Minimum 1 year of experience in underground mining, ore control, production geology, or exploration geology preferred. Experience with underground mapping, sampling, ore control, and core logging preferred. Experience working in an active underground production environment strongly preferred. Technical Skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience using AutoCAD, acQuire, or comparable geological database and mapping software. Knowledge of Deswik, Leapfrog, Vulcan, Surpac, or other mining and geological modeling software preferred. Understanding of underground mining methods and mine production practices. Familiarity with geologic mapping techniques, sampling protocols, and ore control procedures. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of structural and economic geology. Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret geological data. Strong attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and adapt to changing operational priorities. Commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to: Stand, walk, climb, balance, crouch, kneel, and navigate uneven underground terrain. Use hands and fingers to handle tools, equipment, and geological samples. Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Operate vehicles, utility equipment, and lift platforms in an underground mine environment. Maintain close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception necessary for safely identifying vehicles, equipment, mine hazards, and personnel. Adjust focus and maintain situational awareness while working in changing underground conditions. Work Environment Primarily conducted in an active underground mining operation. Regular exposure to dust, noise, vibration, heavy equipment traffic, and changing ground conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, must be worn as required.
