Mechanical Assembly Technician

*ABOUT THE ROLE* We are seeking a versatile, detail-oriented Mechanical Assembly Technician to join our custom fabrication and design shop. In this role, you won't just stand on an assembly line repeating one task; you will build complex, short-run, and one-off mechanical systems from the ground up. You’ll work directly from engineering drawings to assemble, fit, wire, and test custom machinery, welded structures, and precision sub-assemblies. If you thrive on variety, take pride in clean craftsmanship, and enjoy solving real-world mechanical puzzles alongside engineers and fabricators, this role is for you. *WHAT YOU'LL DO* * Assemble complex mechanical assemblies, custom machinery, and structural frames using hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement equipment. * Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, CAD drawings, weldments, and GD&T symbols. * Install pneumatic lines, hydraulic components, linear motion systems, gearboxes, bearings, and drive shafts. * Perform preliminary mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic dry-runs and functional testing on completed builds. * Inspect incoming fabricated parts and final assemblies using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and height gauges. * Identify design flaws, fitment issues, or interference problems and collaborate directly with the design engineering team to implement shop-floor solutions. * Assist with light machining (drill press, cold saw, manual lathe/mill) and metal prep work as needed. * Route basic electrical wiring, sensors, and junction boxes for automated or motorized assemblies. * Rig, crane, and package completed machinery for shipping or client delivery. * Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment adhering to shop safety protocols. *WHAT YOU'LL BRING* * Experience: 2–5+ years of experience in mechanical assembly, custom machinery building, millwright work, or equipment maintenance (custom job-shop experience preferred). * Blueprint Reading: Strong proficiency in reading 2D manufacturing drawings, assembly schematics, and bill of materials (BOMs). * Tool Mastery: Skilled in using torque wrenches, precision alignment tools, pneumatic tools, pop rivet guns, and metalworking equipment. * Basic Shop Math: Proficient in mechanical math, geometric measurements, and unit conversions (fractional/decimal inches and metric). * High mechanical aptitude and a natural problem-solving mindset. * Strong communication skills—comfortable providing feedback to design engineers. * Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a small team. _*Nice to have:*_ * Basic TIG/MIG welding skills for tacking or light bracket modification. * Experience operating manual machine tools (Lathe/Bridgeport) or CNC machinery (VMCs, Press Brakes, Lasers). * Basic electrical troubleshooting skills (multimeter usage, 24V DC control wiring). * Forklift and overhead crane certification. *PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS* * Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and work on your feet in a shop environment for extended periods * Manual dexterity to handle small hardware and delicate components. * Willing to drive a forklift, if needed (will train if not certified) Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 15.0 – 40.0 per week Work Location: In person
