For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see Notice to Out of State Applicants.JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTSVAST Summer Art StudioCamp Counselor/Teaching AssistantLocation: Penn State AltoonaProgram: VAST Summer Art Studio (5-Day High School Art Camp)Camp Dates: July 13 - 17, 2026Morning sessions: 9:00AM - 12:00PMAfternoon sessions: 1:00PM - 4:00PMTotal Hours: Approximately 30 hoursCompensation: $16/hourPosition OverviewThe Visual Art Studies (VAST) program seeks a responsible and engaged Camp Counselor / Teaching Assistant to support the VAST Summer Art Studio, a 5-day pre-college studio art camp for high school students.This role supports faculty instructors in ceramics, digital media, and drawing while helping maintain a safe, organized, and positive studio environment. The Counselor/TA plays an essential role in student supervision, studio preparation, and daily camp operations.ResponsibilitiesAssist instructors with daily setup and cleanup of studio materialsProvide hands-on support to high school students during studio projectsHelp monitor safety in ceramics, digital lab, and drawing studio environmentsSupport basic camp logisticsModel professionalism and respectful behavior in a pre-college settingQualificationsMust be a current undergraduate student or recent VAST graduateInterest in teaching in a studio settingResponsible, punctual, and able to work collaborativelyAdditional requirements:* Must complete required background checks and clearances* Must be available for the full week of campApplicants should submit:* Résumé* Brief Statement of Interest (no more than 1 page) describing relevant experience and why they are interested in supporting a pre-college studio art program at Penn State Altoona.BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCESThis position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICSPursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
