Job SummaryThe Speech/Language Patholigist shall report directly to the designated program administrator and assumes responsibility for evaluating students on their speech/language ability and providing ongoing therapeutic intervention. The Speech/Language Therapist is responsible for providing consultation to teachers, administrators and parents and for providing information and staff in-service training as may be necessary to facilitate IEP requirements and various related program needsDistinguishing CharacteristicsAs directed by their supervisor, when the SLP holds a valid Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) they may be responsible for supervising the activities of Speech Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs), SLP Fieldwork students, or interns. This position may require the ability to provide supervision and guidance supporting staff and interns, including conducting speech and language screenings, using screening protocols developed by the supervising Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP); and provides direct assistance for speech language services provided to students.Supervision Exercised and ReceivedThis position may supervise the daily activities of Speech Language Pathology Assistants.in such cases they may be required to do the following.Daily Supervision: Oversee the daily activities of the Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to ensure adherence to treatment plans and professional standards.Guidance and Support: Provide ongoing guidance and support to the SLPA, addressing any questions or concerns related to their tasks and responsibilities.Performance: Provide regular feedback on performance of the SLPA, offering constructive feedback and identifying areas for professional growth.Training and Development: Facilitate training sessions and professional development opportunities for the SLPA to enhance their skills and knowledge.Compliance Monitoring: Ensure that the SLPA complies with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures in the delivery of speech and language services. Examples Of DutiesCollaboration: Work closely with the SLPA to coordinate and implement individualized treatment plans for students.Documentation Review: Review and approve documentation prepared by the SLPA to ensure accuracy and completeness.Quality Assurance: Monitor the quality of services provided by the SLPA, making adjustments as necessary to maintain high standards of care.Screens all students referred by school personnel to determine those in need of therapeutic interventionProvides comprehensive diagnostic workups, writes reports interpreting data, and makes recommendations based upon the results for use in IEP development/ modificationDesigns, implements, monitors, and reviews as needed appropriate IEP's for students and records pupil progress accurately and timelyEstablishes and maintains comprehensive student/program files as requiredProvides a positive learning environment that stimulates student learning and maintenance of skillsSupports the policies and programs of the Humboldt County Office of Education and performs assigned duties consistent with school, district or office policies, regulations and proceduresMaintains professional competency by actively engaging in employer directed inservice activities and other similar opportunities provided to staffCooperatively engages in the professional evaluation process with supervisor to ensure ongoing professional growth and competenceEffectively communicates with staff, parents and agenciesAttends regular and special staff meetings and actively participates as a member of the educational teamResponds effectively to the input from and coordinates tasks with district/school personnel as required by assignmentPerforms other related duties Employment StandardsEducation and ExperiencePossess and maintain a valid California credential authorizing service as a Speech/Language TherapistDemonstrate competence in communicating effectively with children and parents, staff members and representatives of other agenciesDemonstrate knowledge of various school and community resources associated with a broad array of special education servicesSpecial note regarding the physical demands of teaching: There is some degree of physical ability and exertion required of all teaching positions. Over time, the physical demands of any position are subject to change. Depending upon the particular assignment, teachers could be expected to:Stand, sit and/or move about for sustained periodsMove about in non-traditional instructional environments; e.g., areas of the communityReport to multiple worksites in a given day or during the work weekCommunicate effectively in-person and via telephone and other electronic media to individuals and groups of varying sizesExercise physical control over students who are acting out and/or offer physical assistance to students who might be themselves physically impairedConduct instructional programs within pre-designated break periods and time schedulesMaintain an appropriate personal demeanor during periods of heightened stress created by outside factors not always within the ability of the teacher to control at the timeThe Humboldt County Office of Education is committed to the principles of equal employment opportunity.
