Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Nonprofit Healthcare OrganizationPosition OverviewMy client is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial strategy, stewardship, and operational performance of a mission-driven nonprofit healthcare organization. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO will oversee all financial functions, ensure strong fiscal discipline, and support the organization’s ability to deliver high-quality, accessible care in a complex and regulated environment.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & StrategyServe as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy and long-term planningLead the development of financial strategy aligned with the organization’s mission, growth objectives, and community impact goalsProvide financial insight and scenario modeling to support decision-making across clinical, operational, and administrative areasAccounting, Reporting & ComplianceOversee all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting functionsEnsure accuracy and integrity of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standardsMaintain compliance with regulatory, grant, and reporting requirements, including federal, state, and local guidelinesDirect month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processesBudgeting & Financial PlanningLead annual budgeting process and ongoing financial forecastingPartner with clinical and operational leaders to align resource allocation with strategic prioritiesMonitor financial performance and identify opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvementsRevenue Cycle & Operational FinanceOversee revenue cycle management, including billing, collections, reimbursement, and payer relationshipsEnsure optimization of reimbursement processes across Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payersSupport initiatives to improve cash flow, reduce denials, and strengthen revenue integrityTreasury, Capital & Risk ManagementManage cash flow, liquidity planning, and investment of organizational fundsOversee debt management, capital structure, and financing strategies as neededEnsure appropriate risk management practices and financial controls are in placeLeadership & Team DevelopmentLead and develop a high-performing finance organization across accounting, revenue cycle, budgeting, and financial planning functionsBuild a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvementPartner with department leaders to enhance financial literacy and accountability across the organizationBoard & External RelationsPresent financial results, forecasts, and strategic updates to the Board of Directors and finance committeeAct as primary liaison to external auditors, banking partners, regulators, and funding agenciesSupport grant reporting and philanthropic funding compliance requirementsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA, MHA, or CPA strongly preferred)10–15+ years of progressive financial leadership experiencePrior experience as CFO, Deputy CFO, or senior finance executive in healthcare or nonprofit organizationsStrong understanding of healthcare finance, reimbursement systems, and regulatory frameworksExperience managing complex budgets in a multi-site or multi-entity environmentDemonstrated success leading finance teams and organizational transformation initiativesStrong communication skills with ability to engage board-level stakeholdersPreferred ExperienceNonprofit healthcare system, hospital, or integrated delivery network experienceExposure to value-based care models, payer contracting, or revenue cycle transformationExperience leading ERP or financial system implementationsTrack record of improving financial performance while supporting mission-driven outcomes
