The Advanced Practice Clinician provides effective and efficient Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) evaluation, treatment services for the purpose of reducing the incidence and effects of STDs in individuals and in the community. This position also includes training and precepting staff and students, participating in research studies, offering consultation to internal staff and external providers. It requires the ability to work in an effective, respectful and culturally competent manner with team members, community partners, and clientele from culturally/ethnically diverse communities, including injection drug users, homeless individuals, and individuals involved with the criminal justice system, as well as men who have sex with men (MSM), African Americans and Latinos (due to disparate burdens of STDs/HIV in these communities).
As the Advanced Practice Clinician, you will:
Work cooperatively with the STD Program team to provide effective and efficient evaluations, diagnosis, treatment plans and prevention services
Consistently demonstrates effective, positive and respectful communication with patients and staff including: active listening, empathy, courtesy, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to promote modification of health behaviors with clients
Perform sexual health history, physical examination and specimen collection as outlined in Program clinical guidelines
Formulates appropriate diagnoses and implements treatment plans based on clinical practice guidelines, Health Department policies and community standards of practice
Provide health teaching to patients based on clinical practice guidelines, other designated guidelines, and community standards of practice
Participate in precepting students as part of Region X training site and other students/observers (medical, nursing, pharmacy, etc.)
Participate in clinical research studies, including consenting, data collection, and other activities
Provide daily direction to Community Health Workers to implement aspects of care plans within their scope and training
Provide appropriate advice on the management of STIs to county or community health care providers, following Harm Reduction Clinic and STI Program clinical guidelines and in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) treatment guidelines

TO QUALIFY:

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree
Three (3) to six (6) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, or Physician Assistant License issued by the Oregon State Board of Nursing or Oregon Medical Board
CPR/BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or like organization
Ability to be credentialed by Tri-County Coordinated Care Organizations through Care Oregon

Work Location: This position works onsite at the Gladys McCoy Building located at 619 NW 6th Ave., Portland, OR 97209.
Serving the Public, Even During Disasters:
Everyday, Multnomah County staff work together to serve as a safety net for our communities. During a disaster, this safety net becomes even more critical. All County employees have a role in serving the public during inclement weather, natural disaster, or other types of community emergency response.
