Job Title:Laboratory Research Operations SpecialistDepartment:FAES | School of Environment and Natural ResourcesThe Laboratory Operations Coordinator oversees the administrative and operational functions of the Soil Water and Environmental Lab (SWEL). This role is responsible for ensuring efficient laboratory workflow, managing inventory and procurement processes, maintaining equipment schedules, and supporting faculty, staff, and research activities through effective coordination and system management.Essential DutiesManage administrative operations of the SWEL laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow using established systemsOversee inventory control, including tracking, stocking, and ordering laboratory suppliesCoordinate equipment maintenance schedules and arrange for repairs as neededDevelop and maintain written procedures for laboratory operations, inventory systems, and equipment managementWork collaboratively with multiple faculty members to support research and operational needsServe as a primary point of contact for internal stakeholders (HR, faculty, staff, students) and external vendors and service providersInterface with internal and external research groups utilizing SWEL servicesEvaluate and improve existing operational systems; develop and implement new or modified processes to enhance efficiency, capacity, and service deliverySupport laboratory compliance and operational continuity through accurate documentation and process managementSupervisionThis position operates with general guidance on routine work while exercising independence in daily responsibilities. More detailed instruction is provided for new or complex projects.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience0–2 years of relevant experience in administrative, laboratory, or operations support rolesStrong organizational, communication, and multitasking skillsAbility to work independently while collaborating with diverse stakeholdersWork LocationColumbus Campus – Kottman HallAdditional InformationThis job profile is a Laboratory Research Operations Analyst 1 (S1 level) on the career roadmap.The offer for this position will fall within the positions pay range based on internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
