Job RequirementsThis role requires routine manual labor associated with the daily cleaning of school buildings and to perform various duties requiring physical strength.Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's LicenseDrive vehicles to assigned work sitesKnowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipmentOperate custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines and other equipment as assigned, industrial floor scrubber, stripper/polisher and large wet mopsAbilities:to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strengthto follow simple oral and written instructions in the conduct of the jobto operate mechanical cleaning equipmentto establish and maintain working relations with supervisors, teachers, administrators, and studentssufficient hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity to perform assigned tasksDirect SupervisorBuilding Principal and Director of Buildings & Grounds, may receive assignments from administrative personnel as required or assist with special projects as assigned by District administration.Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability, physical demands and working conditions required of this position.Demonstrate support for the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123's Strategic PlanUphold the established Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative proceduresEstablish and maintain professional competenceParticipate in meetings and perform other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee in accordance with the Board of EducationAbility to sit/stand for prolonged periods of timeRegular attendance and/or physical presence at the jobA detailed description of duties and responsibilities can be found below:Maintain a Safe and Secure BuildingLock and unlock doors, gates and windows as appropriate; turn lights on and off as needed; maintain security of assigned areas according to established guidelines; set alarms as appropriateManage door for events sponsored by outside agenciesNightly CleaningSweep, scrub, mop and vacuum hallways, stairs, restrooms, auditoriums, kitchens, classrooms, work areas and office spaceSpot clean and shampoo carpets as neededClean up spills in hallways and/or classrooms which occur during shiftClean classrooms, cafeterias, gymnasium, auditoriums, lounges, offices, locker rooms, hallways, and other areas as assigned; dust and polish furniture and woodwork; empty waste receptacles, remove gum, debris, and graffiti as neededClean and disinfect drinking fountains and classroom and restroom facilities including sinks, toilets, and urinals, fill dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper, and other items; wash mirrors, tile, walls and windows; unclog drains and toilets; and polish metal workExterior DutiesClean walkways and entrance areas to buildingPick up paper and other debrisSweep concrete surfaces adjacent to school buildingFlag managementTrash RemovalPick up trash inside and outside of the school buildingEmpty receptacles from all areas of the building and place it in outdoor dumpstersOther Duties as Assigned by SupervisorEnter work orders for any maintenance work into the computerFollow up on work order status (i.e. monitor School Dude for outstanding orders)Complete work orders as assignedComplete paint orders as assignedComplete supply orders and fax to appropriate departmentStrip, wax, and polish floors as directedReplace burnt out light bulbs when possibleKeep assigned custodial office/closet neat and organizedReport any security issues to your Principal or the Director of Buildings and GroundsKeep equipment clean and report any repairs needed to supervisor or maintenanceSet up and break down areas for special eventsTerms of EmploymentStatus: Full-Time, Classified (Represented)Hours/Day: See Collective Bargaining Agreement at d123.org/cbaMonths/Year: See Collective Bargaining Agreement at d123.org/cbaSalary: See Collective Bargaining Agreement at d123.org/cbaOur Mission & Strategic VisionOur mission is to prepare today's learners for tomorrow's world.
