Position Type: High School Teaching/Teacher - Science - Chemistry Date Posted: 5/5/2026 Location: Brien McMahon High School 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR SCIENCE TEACHER (CHEMISTRY) BRIEN MCMAHON HIGH SCHOOL POSITION SUMMARY: Instruct students in the specific area of specialty; help students learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their development to meet high expectations; communicate with parents; create a classroom environment conducive to learning; and participate in professional learning. Seeking a Science teacher to support the credit recovery program for the Norwalk Public Schools. Should be interested in creating a student-centered and problem-based learning environment in a classroom. Need a teacher who collaborates well in a small setting with a diverse population, is flexible and dynamic, and is excited about teaching Science. RESPONSIBILITIES:Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Norwalk Board of EducationSet and reinforce clear expectations and routinesManage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environmentPrepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroomDemonstrate strong content knowledge of ScienceMaintain accurate and complete records as requiredConduct parent/teacher conferencesAssess student learning on a continual basis and identify areas of intervention if neededKeep parents up-to-date on student progress through the use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferencesDesign instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as neededDesign and implement assessments that measure progress and use assessments to refine curriculum and instructional practicesDesign clear and specific learning assessmentsMaintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learnerMaintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behaviorMaintain ongoing communication with parentsAssist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materialsEstablish and maintain professional relationshipsParticipate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievementDemonstrate knowledge of teaching methods, materials, and educational practices for secondary school teaching of Science. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:Experience working with adolescent students in a diverse school settingExperience with team teaching in a multicultural environmentAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsAbility to work effectively with othersOrganizational and problem-solving skillsPrior teaching experience preferred QUALIFICATIONS:Active Science-related Certification as required by the Connecticut State Department of EducationThe required knowledge and skills would generally be acquired with a Bachelor's Degree in Education or in Sciences.Demonstrated and successful experience in a multi-cultural setting.Demonstrated ability to teach high school classes. Experience with team teaching.
