Software Developer .NET

Description: This position works with the IT Development Manager to design, develop, implement, and maintain custom-built applications that support business needs and improve processes. The role requires solid technical fundamentals, a collaborative working style, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with evolving development practices. The successful candidate will contribute to active technical initiatives while participating in the team’s transition toward AI-assisted and spec-driven development workflows. This is a role for someone who is grounded in the fundamentals, adaptable by nature, and genuinely curious about how AI tools are changing the way software gets built and maintained. Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain custom applications, integrations, APIs, and reporting solutions that support business and operational needs Analyze, document, and optimize business and technical processes, including identifying and implementing automation opportunities Participate in database migration and modernization initiatives, including transitioning legacy systems and integrations to improved patterns Develop and maintain integrations with third-party systems and APIs, ensuring reliability, performance, and alignment with business requirements Develop, enhance, and troubleshoot reporting solutions (SSRS or modern reporting tools) to support operational and analytical needs Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including solution design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support Engage actively in the team’s transition to AI-assisted and spec-driven development practices, including learning and applying new workflows as they are introduced Use AI-assisted development tools to support analysis, documentation, code generation, and testing tasks as the team’s practices mature Write clear specifications, technical documentation, and acceptance criteria that support structured, traceable delivery Work closely with internal teams and third-party vendors to gather requirements, resolve issues, and recommend improvements Provide support for custom applications, including troubleshooting, issue resolution, and production stability Perform deployment, maintenance, and upgrade activities while minimizing disruption to business operations; occasional nights and weekends required Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with internal staff and external vendors Operate with professionalism and sound judgment in support of TRA’s business, security, and service standards Outstanding TRA Corporate Citizen dedicated to maintaining TRA’s reputation at all times in the communities we touch Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned Qualifications: 5+ years of experience developing business applications using modern .NET, including C#, ASP.NET Core, and REST APIs Strong experience with SQL Server and T-SQL, including query optimization, data modeling, and working with large or complex databases Experience with database migration or modernization projects is a plus Experience with front-end development technologies and API integration Proficiency with Git and modern source control practices; familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing Exposure to Azure or cloud-based development environments preferred Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar; willingness to learn and adopt new workflows as the team’s practices evolve Ability to write clear specifications, technical documentation, test cases, and acceptance criteria Strong understanding of relational databases, application security, and performance optimization Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document technical decisions clearly Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and commitment to quality Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment Adaptable and open to change, with a willingness to grow into new development methodologies and tooling
