Operations Manager – Mechanical Service (HVAC / MEP)Location: Sacramento, CaliforniaPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and grow the Service Department for a mechanical construction subcontractor in the Sacramento, CA market. This individual will oversee day-to-day service operations, including HVAC service, maintenance, and small projects, while driving profitability, team performance, and client satisfaction.The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical mechanical knowledge and operational leadership, with experience managing service technicians, dispatch, and service project execution.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee daily operations of the mechanical service department, including service, maintenance, and small projects Lead, mentor, and manage service managers, coordinators, and field technicians Drive scheduling, dispatch, and workforce planning to maximize efficiency and utilization Manage department P&L, including revenue growth, cost control, and margin performance Develop and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business Support business development efforts, including service agreements, retrofit work, and small project opportunities Implement and improve operational processes, systems, and KPIs Ensure quality control and consistency across all service work Oversee safety compliance and enforce company safety standards in the field Collaborate with construction/project teams for turnover, warranty, and service opportunities Manage vendor relationships and procurement of materials and equipment Utilize service management and project software (e.g., ServiceTitan, Procore, CMiC, or similar) Qualifications7+ years of experience in mechanical construction or HVAC service operations Prior experience in a leadership role within a service department (Service Manager, Operations Manager, or similar) Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical piping, and building systems Proven ability to manage P&L and drive operational performance Experience managing field teams, dispatch, and service workflows Strong customer service and client relationship skills Proficiency with service and project management software platforms Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills EducationBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Business, or related field preferred Equivalent industry experience will be considered Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salary (Up to $170K) Performance-based bonus tied to department performance Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision) 401(k) with company match Vehicle allowance or company vehicle Paid time off and holidays Why JoinEstablished mechanical contractor with a strong regional presence Opportunity to lead and scale a growing service division High visibility role with direct impact on company performance Collaborative leadership team and clear growth path
